Hi guys

Assuming the interior that is often seen through the doors when the box is being filmed on location is a large printed acetate sheet with a light shone from the rear, does anyone know where you can get a sheet of acetate that big printed on?

The other and cheaper, but lets face it less pretty option,  involves a white sheet, a large frame and wadge of white t shirt transfer paper!

Yea the plan was to have the screen set forward of the actual wall and have diffused lighting between the back wall and the screen, there by giving an illuminated interior.
I like the vinyl idea tho I might look into that. In the interim I have discovered that you can use tshirt transfer paper on white sheet and the effect is passable

Primrodo has such a background in his tardis.  Go to TARDIS SHELLS and look at page six of JUSTIN"S TARDIS BEGINS.  Perhaps he can tell you how he did it.

I read somewhere or saw on a dvd extra that It is a big backlit screen.  They take out the back wall and hang it up.

The real thing is a backlit "translight", and they're pretty darn expensive as far as I know.

Yea they do take the rear wall off and back light it on the real thing, I was wondering if anyone knew of a screen printer that would print something off that big, I was thinking like printing a single duvet cover?

Just a thought, failing that it will have to be large printed pieces stuck together.

i've got a screen printing press. but to print something that size and that many colors would be very expensive. you could probably go to a sign shop and have them print out that image on a piece of vinal... you may have to find another way to light it though probably just shining  a light on it would do the trick

I think he wants to mimic what they have on the show, which is a big backlit picture of the console room attached to the back of the prop where the normal back panel would be.  It's hard to green screen something in that you are trying to look at in real life.  Now if you had a holographic projector...
