For me, Shalka actually feels like a crossover between classic and NuWho.

Forgetting the obvious comparisons with the characterisation of the Doctor and the companion set up, The story starts very low key in a small scale English village which is all very classic Who. Things then expand and are shown on a global level in a very NuWho way...

You're right about Capaldi doing the story, His Doctor and setup would have been a seamless fit...
