hiya guys

had a thought whilst browsing youtube...

now i saw a fan vid on there in which the film maker made a tiny model console for forced perspective shots, but the design was the printed pictures of Rob semenoffs "up to date" console placed on the tiny panels...and that got me thinking

What if i were to design the 6 panels in photoshop, [tron meets star trek TNG] have them printed on clear plastic sheets [ya know the sheets that you use with overhead projectors a1 or a0 size, and then make six panels out of clear acrylic jigsaw them together and then simply stick the console designs on the panels and then with a light inside the body of the console illuminates the different colours and there you have a star trek tron esque console.

So what do you think good weez?

yep I made it ages Ago With a model console room to make an animated version of "the curse of fatal death"  but I don't think it exists anymore I can have a look if you like.

Hi Matt,

It sounds like an interesting idea, though colour printing at that size, wouldn't it be rather expensive? 

If you want to go down this touch panel route, ala ST:TNG etc, why not go about it in the same way they did it?  Black fablon with the details cut out, backed with gels of whatever colours you need, then this could be stuck to one sheet of acrylic, with another on top - sandwiching the design between the two layers.

With this in mind, you could always look at the redesigned McCoy console from an old DWM from way back when... if I'm not mistaken, I'm sure Rob based his general layout loosely on this and it does lend itself to the touch screen notion, as this was what it was meant to be.

Maybe someone here could point you in the direction of this console design, I'm sure I've seen it somewhere, but can't think where.

already have a very knackered version and wanting to update it... am currently designing panels... got 3 out of the 6 completed (well the panels which make up 3 of the sides of the console have yet to photoshop the whole thing together...
