This is an extraordinary work. I'm working on my own scale model and trying to improve the plans. The question I have regards the rotor. Is there a reference photo that reveals the hemisphere under the tube lights or is that your invention? It's extremely hard to tell short of paying a visit to the Experience.

Rassilons Rod

I've never seen this hemisphere, but it did exist on the original rotor from the sixties. So I guess it's not inconceivable that Mike Kelt could have returned to that idea.

I'm guessing that this thread http://tardisbuilders.com/index.php?topic=976.msg70098;topicseen#msg70098 answers the question about that "dome" (the fruit basket?) at the bottom of the Hartnell rotor? (And that it's not part of the "Five Doctors" rotor?)

Rassilons Rod

I may be misremembering, but I always thought the fruit basket sat on top of a small dome. Which is what I was referring to. However the Hartnell rotor is a topic for another thread ;)

Ah... I see what you mean now, Marc. But just to close this one out, that fruit basket sat on three or four short, clear acrylic-like rods. (Not sure if the large center rod went all the way through to that black platform the Hartnell innards sat on - can't see through those little rods, but at any road, I don't remember a part like that being in the "Five Doctors" rotor.)

Um, I'm just referring to the small one at the base of the tube lights hub in Jarrod's replica. It's miles apart from the Brachacki fruit basket - ha ha! As far as I can tell (more like can't tell) from photos and video stills, the hub doesn't have this hemisphere and just mounts directly to a small plate or something similar.

I think the central rod must have gone all the way through. It works have been very unstable otherwise.

How thick and long is the door handle? And is there a certain angle it's bent at? Did you bend it or find it already made in that shape?

Thanks guys! Really appreciate your comments. Below are the door handle and the recall circuit dome. Once the panel that has the door handle is dry, I'll take another pic of the handle in situ.

Well, judging by the size of Jarrod's thumb, the diameter of the metal tube looks to be somewhere between 12 and 15 mm and it appears to curve through 90 degrees.

If you can't get curved tube where you are, you might want to try a pipe bender (an insert you put inside the tube which prevents it splitting/buckling/creasing when the tube is forced into a curved shape).

Any idea on how long of a piece I'd need Tony?

Quote from: purpleblancmange on Apr 21, 2009, 04:34 pmGood find with the buttons and switches Jarrod, I did the same hunt a while ago and counting the things off the prop was so boring - got quite a bit of eye strain doing it too.

Here's a shot of the bits I found, though the double sized red key cap was a cheat, I ripped that and a few others off the Rani's console - I doubt she'd mind.  Anyway, the key caps, including the singles are discontinued (as I understand it) so if I ever make mine, I'll no doubt cast them up.

I have found the square caps with the indented circle, but again they are discontinued - however, my inlaw's cooker extractor fan has a couple, so all I need to do is pull a copy from them as well!  If I do get around to this, I should send some your way, but then you've got those tiles which do make a good substitue.

What's putting me right off this project is the expense, I calculated that just for the controls, we were talking a few thousand pounds for the lot, then you need the lighting system and all the other junk too.

Good luck with your build and I really ought to dig those panels out to measure for you again, you only asked me two years ago.  Shame on me. :-[

Does anyone know if purpleblancmange still frequents this forum?

Volpone

He does not.  I think he was gone before I got here. :(

First WOW! Fantastic work.
I'm starting to collect items to make my T.A.R.D.I.S. console.
Can you help me out with the buttons?
What did you use for the blue, green, and red buttons? What type of buttons did you use for the white ones?

Thanks John
Again WoW! Thank you for sharing your build.
