That's an interesting lamp on top of that box.

hb88banzai

It's a standard PA1 lamp as used on the first PA1 Pillars and all the rest of the 1930s and later Glasgow Boxes. It's just been hung from the wires instead of mounted on the Box.

It's my understanding that in Glasgow this was not all that uncommon. Whenever visibility had to be accentuated due to the position of the Box, the lamp would be placed away from the Box at the nearest good line of sight for the various legs of the beat or beats.

Nice find, Pete. This is actually one I don't have in the wings waiting to post whenever I get a spare week or so.

Looks like it's on a pole rather than hung on the wires, interesting roof line on that one aswell

Ah, so it does, with the telephone wires coming in high as well. Very odd.

A blowup --

Marked "PCB" at upper-right (northeast) tip of the very small triangular island at centre of map (not the larger island/block just west-northwest of it).

And from the 1967-1968 map --

Another I saw and was going to post last night  :(.

However, you've posted it as the wrong Box and linked it to the wrong one in the Database. It's actually B39 - http://tardisbuilders.com/index.php?topic=5235. Like with Broomhill Cross, the Box appears to have been moved from the corner (outside The Tower Bar P.H., now The Three Judges) to the island some time before the Mark 4 replaced it.

I've got another that doesn't show it quite so well, but there.

Looking at the two places you are correct.
I was going off what the website, which had it as Byres Road, and the database had a hit.

I swear you have half the ancient buildings in Glasgow and London memorized by now.
If you ever managed to make it across the pond you'd probably feel like a time traveler out of place.

I'll repair the database back to its unattached state, but I presume you can merge this thread with the correct B39 thread?
