why doesn't the Guide mention them? - Oh, it's not very accurate.
Oh? - I'm researching the new edition.

They remind me of the circuit pulled out of the roundel in The Wheel in Space.
In the cities in the streets there's a tension you can feel,
The breaking strain is fast approaching, guns and riots.
Politicians gamble and lie to save their skins,
And the press get fed the scapegoats,
Public Enema Number One.

Thanks again for going to the trouble of grabbing these images for us, Nate.

Is it just me, or do the end caps on three of those fluid links look like the "foot" of a walking stick or some such... thingy? I know I've seen rubber caps like that before. As for the link itself, it looks like a clear plastic tube with some carefully rolled metal (tin? aluminium?) foil inside it.

Ha! they look like those glitter tubes that you buy in the cheap shops in the toy section for kids to play with, see them all the time here in South Australia.  :D
Will grab one next time I see one & put a photo up.
forgot all about that story, got them on DVD too.
& thanks for the snap shot reminders.
Chris.

The tip looks like a Chair Leg Bumper or the rubber tip of a Baton Thrower Stick.

When I was a kid I had a glitter wand.  From my fuzzy recollection it looked a lot like that fluid link unit, white ends and all.  of course this was a few years back...
cheers
