Ack.  Sorry about how that turned out.  Actually I kind of like how it looks and it might dull down nicely with some time and oxidization.  That was something that was nagging at me that I couldn't quite put my finger on--things like "brass" faucets (and I would assume doorknobs and apparently your watch) aren't really brass, they just have a brass finish on them) I eventually remembered it but couldn't find the thread back in time--and I was hoping since it was a watch it would actually be brass like our buckles.

That should wear fairly nicely too, with the high spots smoothing and getting shinier to really give it character.  I tried that "chrome" spraypaint on my Character Options Tom Baker sonic screwdriver and it didn't ever get chrome, but as it has worn it looks nicely weathered now.
