Hello,
Always been fascinated by the the Whomobile. When it first appeared I was more interested in that than James Bonds DB5. I feel its an ingenious design but have wondered how it was put together by Pete Farries who built it. Being aware that Pete Farries also worked on IMPs and Pertwee was into his speedboats caused me to take a closer look at the design.
To me it seems a case of a boat, possibly a minimoke or again becaue Pete Farries was into them the rear of an American truck from the 1960 all mixed up and stuck together !!
This is what I mean. First of all looking at the Whomobile at the front nose then the curve of the body towards where the wings start. Imagine this is a small boat turned upside down. This is from the Dr Who display of which I took photo of at Beaulieu :

and from the side follow the same lines

the edge of the whomobile on the far right as it touches the floor again looks like an upside down boat.
The rear of it could be part of the rear of the same boat, another boat or I thought for a while maybe the front of a mini moke from the 1960's. The rear jets on the whomobile might be an amendment of where the headlamps sat originally on the the mini moke !

The rear above the engine bay may again be part of another small boat or a car from the 1960s' It looks a little like the rear of a Jaguar XJS but that didn't come out until the mid 1970's and is probably too large so might be something else, but what ?

Or is it the back of a small USA pick up truck ?
And what boat could have been used as the basis for the main body. Anyone recognise anything ?
