Ok so it DOES spin!
Hard to tell if the time rotor moves up and down in that episode though...

The inside is smaller than the previous 2 and the darkness of the theme makes it feel smaller that it is.  Think it "looks" to be smaller than even the classic console rooms.
Also the way the entryway is laid out I think makes it look almost like the dimension in which the tardis interior is housed starts on the back wall of the exterior police box facade.

Actually I would like to reword that after looking at kingpin's stills (thanks kingpin)

It looks as though the interior contains the door to the outside as opposed to the outside containing the inside...

Yeah... probably still reads like gobbledegook, but I know what I mean.

Well ladies and gentlemen, I for one will be off to Wickes tomorrow to buy large supplies of pipe insulation! Seems like a nice little way to make the interior of my box more accurate and expansive ;)

Just a note of grace for the coral consoles: Personally I will greatly miss the sentient coral look, and am saddened by the passing of what was certainly a revolutionary design that captured many peoples' imaginations. If anyone has any information on what will become of the old Smith set, whether it is still in service or not, I would be grateful to hear about it, but perhaps such information would be best consigned to that set's particular thread. Perhaps it will join it's little twin at the Experience?

It seems to me that we have barely scratched the surface of this shiny (well...weathered) new set! There is clearly another level below the central platform as indicated by the shape of the walls and the stairs leading downwards. It's also interesing to wonder where the rail at the top of the room leads, hopefully we will bet some new set pictures soon detailing this (Doctor Who Magazine have promised a detailed look at the new set in January's issue). Elements of all eras here, from the McGann-esque console and central column, to the Smith-stlye railings and Eccclestone industrial shape and feel to the room. Some more classic colour schemes given the heavy-duty, well worn look. I suppose we should start trying to identify some of this stuff, eh? Well, I'll start: I bet none of it is made from plant-pots from Homebase this time!

It's hard to tell due to the blurriness from Iplayer, but in addition to the "Harnell handles", I swear I can see some McGann inspired console details as well as some wooden Console styled buttons.

It wouldn't be too surprising if they worked in references from each console since the series began into this new design, given how everything else is also drawing from the past 50 years (TARDIS exterior, intro sequence).

It looks like the rail simply circulates the Console Room, acting like a gallery similar to the one in Tennant's Console Room.  If I'd had to hazard a guess, I bet the entry to the rest of the TARDIS lies below the main level... but we'll see soon enough.

Maybe touch controls similar to LCARS from ST:NG...
When I saw this particular panel, I was thinking it may be some sort of "telepathic" read-out station. Much like the sonics in the New Series have all had a blue or green ...display, for lack of a better term...so does this console. A neat way for him to walk (or run) past, glance down & supposedly glean all sorts of information from.

As I was typing this, I realized that he also has 2 scanner screens, so...there goes that theory.

Things inside the TARDIS happened so fast it was hard to tell if that spinning was actual mechanical rotation or CGI, or a combination of the two.

Very possibly. I did notice the lights in groups of three running around that upper catwalk, like the Eccleston/Tennant console room (only here they "chased" around the room rather than just pulsated as they did in the aforementioned console room; between that, and the rotating bits atop the column, I'd almost think they're borrowing a bit from the Jupiter 2's engine lights... and why not? the US has borrowed enough bits for our shows from the UK so turnabout is fair play!).

Hmm. I think the console is interesting, the column especially but the room/interior is just a bit bland. Nice but not enough for me. I'd probably be replacing those walls for classic roundel walls instead :P
Still taking all of it in, myself: just a bit overwhelmed at it all right now (and I doubt I'll be thinking of building this console just yet; right now it reminds me much of the "Five Doctors" console - a bit "over-gadgetted"...- too many buttons, though I do like the Hartnell-esque levers and that one "glowy" panel that whovian-almighty thought was too plain).

The lighting scheme was interesting... on entering the room it was first lit all deep blue, then it went to green, then bright white with blue walls, then everything dimmed down... Like I said, everything inside the TARDIS was a flurry of activity and you couldn't lock onto many details. Thanks to Kingpin we have something to start a "2013" Reference in the Console section, but even that couldn't capture "details", if you know what I mean. (I do agree about the roundels, though.)

One thing we haven't gotten before, in any other episode - ever... "It's smaller on the outside!" (The Doctor looked almost disappointed that it wasn't said the other way round!)

Dino.

I like that they fixed the problem with the "Pull To Open" phone door.  With the last two designs, one had only to reach in and unlock the TARDIS door lock. I made the PTO door a false one in my TARDIS because of the flaw.

Design-wise, having the door look like the back of the police box door is silly.  If the ship's Chameleon Circuit worked, would the control room reconfigure every time the TARDIS materialized?

And now that I've drawn Crispin's ire ;) I will say that I agree that they've done a very good job of combining design elements from all the eras.  Kingpin, I think one of the McGann elements you saw in the controls was that brass variable/rheostat-type switch that is in the foreground of one of the shots.  I remember seeing that in the thread on the restoration of the McGann console.

While the Hartnell console (and those up to the "Five Doctors" console) made use of gauges, use of gauges in this design (and the circular radar screens and such) definitely lends more of a steampunk effect to it, like the 1996 console.

That's one of them.  I believe I've also seen a homage to the flip-up panel with connecting cables (location of the Beryllium chip) from the 8th Doctor's console:

Old friend Purple noticed that there are two knobs with a raised handle that are like a switch on the Ghostbusters proton packs. http://purpleblancmange.wordpress.com/2012/12/25/christmas-day-toys-toys-toys/new-console-buttons/
Bill "the Doctor" Rudloff

Well howabout that.

They're referred to in my Ghostbusters circle as "crank knobs", although I believe they're part of the Raytheon range.

Black versions of the knob were commonly used on model railway controllers, so that might offer a source for that part of this console.

The Gallery around leades to two doorways out of the console room, both situated either side of the Main entrance, There is also another doorway out at the bottom of the left side stairway at the lower level, which places the console room and main doors very much in the centre of a much larger ship ;D

Hold on... aren't those Paradigm Dalek neck rings on the walls? Trophies perhaps? ;)

I recently saw the episode again.

The Above image - the central spires do go up and down during flight but just those two. The outside ring of light tubes stay in place.

At least as far as I can see.

Right on both counts. My old Raytheon AN/SPS-64 radar indicators (scrapped in 1997) had those "crank knobs" on them. Much of the older equipment that I worked on in the '80s and early '90s that's also gone by the wayside had those. On the radar one was used to rotate the bearing circle, the other was used to run the range "dot" further out or closer in. All of those knobbies were always black.

Some model railway controllers do still have them. For those looking for knobbies like this, check companies such as Digikey. I'm not sure exactly what they're called (old brain cells), but if you visit an electronics supply shop and describe what you're looking for (or show them a photo) they could probably point you in the right direction.

I've watched the episode twice and the interior scene a couple more.
I saw the middle section open as he started the tardis up, but it didn't appear to be doing it repeatedly.
I took it as more a visual indication of the handbreak

These seem to be the exact type of lever used for the top of one of the panels:

These particular ones are in the Edgware Road signal box, they're miniature control levers for electrically operated signal points and signals.
