now and then

Two more recent shots of the Sheffield box (from about 8 or 9 months ago). The second shows the inside of the box, which is apparently still in use in 2007! The outside shot shows a bit more damage to the paintwork around the base which has happened just in the intervening year from the photo I took which is a shame.

Bow top boxes rock! I hope to make one sometime. Meanwhile I feel a scale model of one of these coming on...:

(The box, I mean, obviously!)

Where is this?? Is there a definitive list of existant Boxes??? I am in the UK for 6 months and would love to track them down....

That last one is at the Met Police Recruit Training School at Hendon.  It's used as a store for traffic cones .........

Hi All
and hello Davoren
I fear it would be difficult to visit this Mk3, as it is stands, apparently, within the grounds of the Hendon Police College.
It can be seen from the train as it passes through I'm told.
By far the best List/History place for existing Police Boxes is here;

http://homepages.paradise.net.nz/~trekker/policeboxes/home.html

It is run by by our very own Glen (Kiwidoc) and is a mine of info on Police Boxes and Tardis props alike

While I'm here, I found this little gem on a google image search. My sincere apologies to the hosts but it is a cracker.
A screen grab from "Too Many Crooks" (1959) It was apparently put up for filming in North Wembley, as was the Traffic light. The plinth under the traffic light support's this (PUN INTENDED, Sorry)
Could this possibly be the Aaru box? or a prototype of. The roof and windows look like it me

Many thanks

Simply travel between Hendon and Colindale and look to your right - you will see it.

That looks too similar to the AARU box doesn't it Chris. I reckon they modified it after the first daleks film because the dimensions look perfect and in 2150AD they don't particularly.

Thanks for that guys!!

Most appreciated. I am visiting from Australia and want to make the most of hunting Police Boxes.

Thanks again!

Had a look at 'Too Many Crooks' from 1959. The box is definitely a prop, but seems to be too narrow to be the prop used in the later 1960's Cushing movies. If anything (apart from the glazing used in the windows) this prop appears, in terms of general proportions, roof lamp etc to be a far more accurate replica of original Police Boxes around London at that time, rather than the chunkier version used in the Dalek movies. In the second pic you can see the corner post is made up of plywood sections nailed or screwed to a frame beneath.

Found this picture today, you have to look closely at the right hand side of the picture.

Hi All
][/quote]

Ah the Southbridge road junction.
Believe this, this junction is now traffic light controlled (4-way).
Emerge from the road on the right and you can only turn right 5 SECONDS later and the road on the left get's a green also, and they have to turn left, resulting in the most ludicrous, if not downright dangerous situation of two sets of traffic thinking they have right of way. Indeed Mrs KB, Carole, won't drive through here.
Back on topic, I rode the bus both ways through here from '67 to '71 every day, (School) and I just can't recall this box. The picture isn't clear but the original is, it's definitely a met box.
I was probably too busy doing my homework lol!
Happy new year to everyone

Don't know where you find these images, but I am certainly thankful that you are willing to share them! This is one of the more interesting images I have seen. I could be wrong, but by the looks of the shade, this would appear to be an earlier box (from the 30s or 40s) that retains it's original pale blue paint, but has the more modern white window frames, blue "Police Box" sign, raised phone panel (with glass sign) and ambulance badge which I always though was signature of the latter dark blue boxes. I've never seen one such as that before (except one by Britannia miniatures which I assumed someone hand painted after purchase).  A couple of photobucket images (hope the owner has no issue with my linking) below show the different syles.

What a great historical collage on the Police Box.  Many thanks to all the contributors!!  I really enjoyed seeing them.

Hi All
Three new ones for you to contemplate
This one has a familiar looking building behind it?

I was watching Randall and Hopkirk yesterday, an episode from 1969 ‘Just for the Record’ and thought I saw a police box  :o As I had my camera to hand, I took the low tech option of taking a photo of the TV screen – so not a great picture lol

Am I seeing the same Tower of London box as in KB's picture?

I would say you have hit it on the nose.  You can see the door sign in your pic to the left of the two red phone boxes.

Not sure if we’ve seen these ones before? I don’t know where they are.
