North Shields Police Box

Lovely to see a different design of box here in North Shields, sadly not a very interesting paint scheme. I suspect it’s a later addition, interestingly it juts out into the road which seems a bit mad.



The signal light was either bracket or post mounted at the corner of the road. It’s at the edge of the above pic.

Not a patch on the Magnificent South Shields Boxes!  ;D

Very true, I wonder what they thought of their colleague’s boxes south of the river.

Much better colour scheme here for this North Shields box in Cullercoats in 1985. It was outside the Rocket Garage which is a former lifeboat station. The garage is still there.

I saw a comment on a North Shields Facebook group about a “stone” police box. Which got me looking. I think this must be it. I guess it is a WWII blast wall or its to protect the box from the customers in the pub behind. Which appears to have had a tough reputation even by North East standards.





It was replaced with a 50s flat roof box later just like the ones pictures above.
