Newbery TARDIS/Tom baker secondary wooden console... Before starting the project

Hello everyones!

Long time I didn't post any messages. Anyway.

I'm working on a new project since I had to dismantle my previous Tardis interior / console.

I'm working on a new console, with a more clean and accurate rendered. I choosed the secondary wooden control console. I love this model. Can fit easyly in a room.

But before I start anything, I wanted some infos. The exact dimensions of each panel (I already searched in console reference but there isn't all the dimensions I need to start the project, and in fact there's conflicting informations, I saw two different exploded views, and dimensions where absolutely not the same... I know it has been very difficult to report the dimensions from only the show by mostly pythagora's theorem.

But some builders already created this console, and I hoped a little help from them who encountered the dimensions problem. Thing is, I want a very clean cut, and I will give all the informations to a cabinet maker let him make nearly all the cuts, after that, I will assemble everything.

Thanks all !

Good luck with your build.
Can't help you myself, but hopefully someone will be along soon with the info you need.

Great minds think alike! But you'll get there far sooner than I will ;-)

No dimensions of the prop than I know of, but if I was starting I would probably steal [member=785]warmcanofcoke[/member] 's plans (if he features any, or just the dimensions) or guestimate based off Sladen's height and EXTRAPOLATE from there.

[member=4159]russellsuthern[/member] Yes it is a very active and supportive forum, I know someone can help. Even a little bit.

[member=69]davidnagel[/member] Oh really ?! So my topic is also made for you, if you want some infos for your console too ! ;)
Yes exactly I was thinking about [member=785]warmcanofcoke[/member] and also [member=2]Scarfwearer[/member], he also made an amazing job with his wooden console too.

At first I wanted to order everything to a cabinet maker, but here, in my town they are really expensive ! (nearly 2500€ for a simple wood table ! (approx 2150 pounds !) And the delay for working on it is also too long, and all cabinet maker, looked at me like I was an alien, when I showed the pictures and one plan of the console ... I don't think they want to work on it ... So I will try to do it myself ! I already worked on a previous console / console room when I was 15 years old, now nearly 24, I can do it even better I think. In every case it will strengthen my skills in wood working.

If only this got published we would have had the original set of plans for it. You can just see the plans to the right of the book in the middle of the image.

Those on this site that Tony put together however do appear to be the best set to work from for the Secondary console.

I would have loved to get my grubby little protruberances on that book, too... 😞

My understanding was that Jan was blocked from publishing. Don't know where I heard that anymore. But I think that's what happened.

Was this book never published?

Hi cybermat,

I've been working on a Sketchup model of this console- it's mostly based on Scarfwearer's latest dimensions, but proportionately a bit shorter than either his or Tony's given a few (...hopefully justified) tweaks I made. I don't think it would provide complete component dimensions for a full-scale wooden build since I haven't been modeling a necessarily realistic substructure- dimensions for external pieces like the panel covers are probably good though. Plus I'm using a whole bunch of sheet thicknesses (25, 15, 10, 7.5, 5, 3 mm) that I'm not sure are all common. Let me know if this could be of use anyway!

Thanks to everyones for helping.
[member=7168]themindprobe[/member] thanks too about the dimensions. You've made an amazing job with the 3D model ! It very accurate to the show.

But now the project is finished. I encourage all of you, to go check the "console build diaries" section, I posted my version of the 14th season console.
Not an exact replica, but I like it very much !
