Newbery box build

Yep.  Intellectually, I don't like the Newbery, but emotionally, it increasingly pushes my buttons.  I think Russel pointed out that it may be the most TARDIS of the TARDISes, because it's like it's an alien machine, *trying* to look like a police box--but not quite getting it.  An old, malfunctioning alien machine that is way past due for service.

I think that’s a brilliant summation. Makes perfect sense. I doff my hat to you sir!

So was I. Absolutely despised it!
But, I’ve mellowed over the years towards it and Moonbeams box is just brilliant.

Same, i guess it will happen. I use to despise it, now i just think it's just the one i don't like. And the one i hate is the capaldi box now

Hi everyone, been a while since I updated where I got to with my tardis, so just thought I’d pop a few pictures up.
It’s still not quite finished, still got a bit of work to do in the interior but have long finished the telephone door sign and mainly tried to do a bit of dirtying down, although I’m not sure how well that shows up in the pictures. I’m trying the add a little at a time approach.
I’ve also fitted a Philips Hue lamp that works from your phone using Bluetooth, so I can time it to flash and control the brightness. Also I’ve fitted one of those hanging tapestry’s from Clayton Hickmans redbubble shop. I know it’s not the right interior but I bought it to hang on the wall but it’s found it’s way in here instead!
Hope everyone’s doing ok!
Moonbeam.

That. Is. Perfect.

Seriously, that is really good!

I'm just building a 6th scale Newbery myself (The 45degree chamfers are tedious at that scale!) So I'm definitely feeling the love for the prop at moment.

I wish the Mrs would let me put a TARDIS in our kitchen; however I have to make do with the garden apparently...

That's a beautiful build.

Brings back great memories!

Photos downloaded straight from an Ipad default to landscape, so you have to rotate them before putting them on the site.

Plus, you can put multiple pictures in one post.

Hope that proves useful,

Regards,

Russell

Amazing!

I always get an extra surge of nostalgia when I see a Newberry. That glimpse of the interior is very effective. Does the tapestry run round the three walls? Can you post a photo from the front with the door open?

Very nice.  Good choice on gradual weathering too.  Then you can decide to stop before you go too-too far.  Weathering is a lot different for an indoor box too.  For an outdoor box, *weather* will do a lot of weathering *for* you.  Fading, gunk from leaves, spatter up from the ground after rain...  Any weathering you do will change over time, and while you may be happy with your weathering, you periodically need to repaint to protect the wood, so you have to re-weather.  With an indoor box, you've got to get the weathering right yourself, but at least once you're happy with it, you don't have to worry about it changing on its own.

Oh, and I did try to rotate the images.  It doesn't look like my control panel has any way to do that, but maybe someone more skilled like warmcanofcoke knows how.

Hi everyone and thanks for the nice replies, (and apologies for my late reply, a holiday and mad busy work to blame!).
Building it’s been a real labour of love and very satisfying to do!
Fivefingeredstyre it’s nice having it in the kitchen but I wouldn’t mind a met box down the end of the garden……I can see a future project!

Hi Francis I’ve taken a couple of pictures looking through the front. The tapestry I think is the largest size redbubble do and it starts and covers the whole of the left hand wall and the back wall and just short of half of the right hand wall, (which I’ve still got to paint black, along with the roof).C3385B74-47F2-40D7-9BB7-4768290B9EC2.jpegE5D6BC21-3026-453B-A14C-A1F4B6987CEA.jpegA07603A0-DD02-4675-BC8D-2B1CFB99D34C.jpeg

This looks absolutely amazing! I'm just in the middle of planning my Newbery build right now but I'm currently struggling on figuring out how to build the base? What did you do to make it look like that?

Great build, moonbeam!!

Re: the photos coming out sideways.

Usually this is a quirk of taking the pictures on a mobile phone. The auto rotate feature and whatever data that stores in the jpg isn't always read on the upload.

The best thing to do is rotate them on your computer and upload from there.
