MY MCKENZIE TRENCH TYPE 40

Hi all,

Just thought I'd share a few pics of my Tardis. Unfortunately, I can't lay claim to building her. I found her on Facebook Marketplace, but I have made a few additions since I bought her. Honestly, the money I've spent on this bloody thing! 🙄 It took the seller near-on ten years to build her, and the only thing he never got round to doing was the roof light, which I built myself. He claimed she was 100% waterproof. She wasn't. 😬 And I didn't like the obviously wood finish. I've had her for just over a year now, and if it's possible to love an inanimate object, well, I guess I do. 🥰 It's like she's ALWAYS been there, where she lives at the end of the garden. I gave her her concrete 'feel' with a roof paint I used on the leaky flat roof of our garden office. It's the nastiest, stickiest, stinkiest sh*t you'll ever see but is 100% waterproof (so far!). Below are a bunch of pictures, pre and post restoration.

There's an extra step.  Go into "More..." and modify the post.  "Quick Edit" won't work.  You need to open the attachments.  There's an "Attach" button at the bottom of each attachment that you need to click.  It's stupid and I hate having to explain it over and over, but that's the software we've got so that's what we work with.  I apologize for the "shoot from the hip" explanation.  I really should save a text file to my desktop for the number of times I have to explain this.  If you can't figure it out from this in 24 hours or so, I'll go in and write up the step-by-step instructions.  Again.

On topic, it's a wonderful box.  Very nicely Met Box as opposed to TARDIS. One bit of unsolicited advice:  Didn't read about the construction, but if the base is timber, having it on a masonry foundation may give you problems.  You'd think it would be ideal, but the pavement provides a place for water to pool.  Then it wicks up onto the box from underneath and rots it from the bottom.  Learned this the hard way myself and I'm still considering if I can repair the damage.

Hi Volpone,

Blimey, bit of a palava, but I got there in the end...I think! 🥴

The base is timber, but the slabs are concreted in place and the box is sealed to them, so I'm hoping that will suffice. Time will tell, I guess. 🤞🏼😬

That box looks fantastic! My personal preference would be for white window frames, but yeah - that’s magnificent.

Yeah....She's a beauty. Personally, I am more of a real metbox man than a tellybox man. ( I like a darker blue and no white frames!) The concrete effect has worked very well. Nice to see it before the paint too. Ive been enjoying the detail shots of the sign lintels there....Great job.

Andrew

Thank you all for the kind comments.

Revisiting Matt Sanders build thread and his box puts mine to shame. What a beauty! I am in total awe of his meticulous work. I have some serious McKenzie Trench envy! 🤣 Does anyone know if Matt finished his box in the end? I'd love to see!

Darren. 🙂

It had white windows when I bought her...but I preferred blue. 😂
