Hordriss' Custom Daleks

I finished writing the history of the Dalek Planner but it's too long to post here; I got a bit carried away. If you're interested you can read it here -

I decided to go back to my NSD/Classic Dalek Emperor. I've left the holes in the base for cables to go into as opposed to hanging from the ceiling. The throne is a bit of a tight fit but I'm pleased with how it came out. I filled the interior with lots of bits and mechanisms that would rotate and such like a complex machine. To give the Emperor a greater range of expression I gave it a telescopic eyestalk and rotating eye. The eyestalk extends about 4 inches. I'm reluctant to weather it because I don't imagine the Emperor visiting the front lines too often. Let me know what you think.

I would add just a hint of a wash, simply because, as a miniature, shadows don't interact with it the way they would a full sized one.  A little black/grey/brown, lining the nooks and crannies should really make it "pop."

The Supreme Commander is head of Dalek Security and Supreme Admiral of the Fleet. While answerable to the Supreme Dalek the Emperor Dalek tended to issue orders to the Supreme Commander directly from the hidden Hub Ship.

The Supreme Commander has a black casing, to indicate its history and position as a military leader, with silver livery to show its superiority to other Black Daleks. The Supreme Commander also wears a striking red dome, reminiscent of the Supreme Dalek, to symbolise its authority and lofty position within the hierarchy of the empire. The Supreme Commander maintains a traditional Dalek claw arm which it keeps sharp and uses to dismember and ultimately decapitate enemy leaders at the conclusion of their interrogations. Various examples of the preserved enemy heads can be seen on the walls of the Supreme Commander’s office aboard the Annihilator including those of a Draconian nobleman, a Mechonoid hive queen, Admiral Nagala of Caprica and several Time Lords.

The Supreme Commander as the head of security for the empire has duties which range from border defences to recruiting of spies. The Supreme Commander is also responsible for the Dalek Fleet including serviceability, strategy, promotions and appointments. In this capacity the Supreme Commander has lead many space battles in person from its own command ship – the Annihilator. After many successful campaigns and the routing of disloyal elements from within the Empire itself the Emperor named the Supreme Commander “Authoritax of the Daleks”, the highest military title used by the Kaled military during the Thousand Year War. The title Authoritax soon came to the ears of the Empire’s enemies and it’s presence on the battlefield struck fear into the hearts of enemy forces.

Unless called to Skaro or to the Hub Ship the Authoritax prefers to remain aboard the Annihilator; ready to respond to any sudden attack by enemy forces. The Annihilator is one of the most heavily armed Dalek ships ever constructed and is capable of acting as a base of operations for large scale campaigns and occupations with hangars capable of housing hundreds of fighters, patrol ships and combat hoverbouts. The vessel also possesses a custom war room and fleet coordination suite designed by the Authoritax which is capable of directing Dalek forces in multiple battles simultaneously. The Annihilator is largely crewed by elite Daleks with a command crew of experienced starship captains and Black Daleks. Standard Dalek drones filled non-essential roles aboard the ship as well as maintenance duties though even these crew members were required to have a high degree of accomplishment in their respective fields. By the time of the First Flux Event, when the Empire had been able to acquire the necessary resources, the Annihilator’s basic design, without the additions and changes made by the Authoritax, was copied and had begun to form the bulk of the Dalek fleet as the Annihilator Class.

Architex of the Daleks

This is a simple custom Dalek based on the bubblebath bottle from the 1970s. As you've probably guessed by now these customs come with a history which I love writing and fits in with those of previous customs including my Emperor Dalek, the Authoritax and the Dalek Planner. In this case the builder's hard hat look of this Dalek inspired most of it. The history will be below as usual.

After the First Emperor was restored to the throne a great undertaking began to restructure and rebuild the empire following the repeated and catastrophic losses of the past.

To encourage competition and reward success, intelligence and strength the Emperor created new ranks for his most senior subordinates such as the Authoritax of the Daleks. In addition to rewarding military prowess the First Emperor understood the importance of acknowledging invention, innovation and creativity. This line of thinking lead to the creation of the office of Architex of the Daleks; the chief engineer, architect and design chief. This Architex was the Emperor’s master builder.

To once again encourage others to strive for excellence the Architex was given a custom casing. The Dalek selected for the post chose to keep its black casing but bore a yellow dome reminiscent of a builder’s hard hat. The Architex also utilised a claw arm with inbuilt laser torch similar to an Assault Dalek and more practical for an engineer than the standard armature.

The Dalek selected as the Architex was the designer of the Hub Ship, the Annihilator Class saucer and several buildings within the imperial capital. The engineer was proposed for the post by the Authoritax and several analysts aboard the Hub Ship. Fearing further dilution of its power the Supreme Dalek objected to the creation of the post and argued that the present hierarchy served the empire well. The Supreme Dalek was ignored by the Emperor and the engineer was nominated and facilities created for it and its team.

Blimey! That brings back memories...

I had that bubble bath when I was tiny. I kept the Dalek container for years after :)

Love the colour scheme, Hordriss. Is the base model one of the figurine range that you've painted up?

It's a CO 3.75 inch action figure.

The final member of the Emperor's advisory triad - the Praeceptor of the Daleks - finding a better title is not out of the question.

History -

To complete its triad of senior administrators/advisors the Emperor turned its attention to the Science Division to nominate a chief science Dalek. In consultation with the Dalek Planners the Emperor selected the existing head of the Division. Unlike other areas of the empire the Science Division was already a meritocracy and so the decision was far more simple than in the case of precious selections. The title awarded to the Dalek selected was Praeceptor of the Daleks.

The Praeceptor had spearheaded the rescue of the first Emperor from Old Skaro prior to its destruction in the First Civil War. The Praeceptor had also designed several biogenic weapons successfully deployed against the empire’s enemies and overseen the development of various preventative technologies to protect Dalek troops from the biogenic weapons of their enemies. The new casing awarded to the Praeceptor was of course black, denoting its superiority, with the blue head and skirt domes of a Time War era science Dalek. The Praeceptor was often seen with an electrode unit for operating scientific equipment remotely.

The Supreme Dalek was furious at yet another aspect of its authority being devolved to a specialist. The Emperor ruled all, military matters were largely the purview of the Authoritax, engineering and utilities the responsibility of the Architex and now science and medicine the Praeceptor leaving the Supreme Dalek as a mere administrator with little real authority. The Supreme Dalek argued that the emergence of a cast system went against Dalek ideas of uniformity and conformity and risked a civil conflict in the future. The Emperor quickly dismissed this argument as the division between military, engineering and science Daleks already existed, presided over by the Supreme Dalek itself. The Emperor also cited the precedent that many leaders of the Empire had appointed councils to both advise the leader and take responsibility for various aspects of the Empire’s activities which again included the Supreme Dalek.

Following the Supreme Dalek’s objections the Praeceptor and the Architex were ordered by the Emperor to devise a method of testing the loyalty of all Daleks to screen for those whose loyalties may lie with the Supreme Dalek and not the Emperor. The Praeceptor was also ordered to adjust the conditioning of new Daleks to ensure loyalty to the Emperor above all meanwhile the Authoritax was ordered to secretly begin planning a purge of those loyal to the Supreme Dalek.

This is an update to an old custom I did of the Hive Dalek Supreme. I worked out a way to do the shoulder band with the sensor domes though I still haven't found a way I can do the strip dome light. If you want to see it done really well you should look up CaptainJimpie on Doctor Who Amino. I'm not too happy with the eye but I think overall it's an improvement on how it looked before. This Dalek was huge so I included a couple of 3.75 inch figures to illustrate it.
