CYBERSCOPE (Earthshock)

Excellent!
Enough to make even an emotionless cyberman smile!
Can I ask about your k9?
Built or bought?
He looks great and I do like a good k9...

Regards
Russell

Thanks Russell. My K-9 is getting on a bit now. I built him back in 2007 which makes him almost 16 years old, but I didn't create a diary post on here until 4 years later. This is him:- https://tardisbuilders.com/index.php?topic=2711.msg33849#msg33849 (JG's Tin Dog)

I remember that one now!
That was one of the build diaries I used to inform and inspire myself when I set out to make my own K9.
It's a fantastic build!

Regards.

Russell

You're moving through this project quite fast. You already got all the main structure... THAT WAS FAST!! It's looking great. So jealous!!

Good progress today with the probe. I have the second bonded, clamped and curing at the moment, and the first is now glued to the base parts. I've also trial fitted all the parts together, including the ray tube and laser tips. The red tip itself is the sawn off end of a uniball Signo gelstick pen (UM-170).20230201_Probe Trial Fit_1.jpg20230201_Probe Trial Fit_2.jpg

Looks fantastic. This is a real joy to watch. Will you use flourescent tubes in the emmiters?

No, I've got some falling meteor effect lights I plan to use so that I get that downward pulsing effect. The ambition is also to use a piece of angled muslin in the centre and use a projector to try and get some sort of holographic image of the Doctor's Cyber encounters on repeat spool, but not sure if that will work. Might be a bit ambitious.

Put a rear projector in the center facing up. Then put some kind of screen in the center at 45 degrees. It's basically the way a heads up display in a fighter jet works.

Yep, that's the plan. I've got a HUD in my car too, which kind of inspired it. I've also seen there are some cool halloween decs that project on to sheets of muslin to get that transparent ghost look. It will certainly be fun experimenting!

The last few weeks I've been sorting out the tenon joints between the three console segments.

I also decided to split the base into two halves, which was quite a feat having already bonded it all together. It made sense to spend the time, as it will make it far easier to transport. Wish I'd done it earlier, but it was worth the effort, and keys together really well. The bottom now hooks in, with keyhole locking features at the top. This avoids faffing about with any nuts and bolts.

I've also begun painting, and cutting up the metal panels on the console out of sheets of 3mm ally. This is proving to be very laborious, but effective...

Most of the console parts are now modelled, printed and ready for painting. These are just a few...

This is looking great!! Makes me want to build one. Can't even guess where I would store it... much less display it.

The finishes really make it pop.  Between the actual stainless steel panels and the texture on the...MDF?...it doesn't look like your standard prop or replica.

Thanks chap. I used Hammerite (hammered effect rather than smooth) for the MDF (applied with a roller, as the brush marks don't disappear!) Not the cheapest, but the beauty is you don't get the "furring" of the wood and instead get a great effect!

As I'm trying to get the scope finished for a charity event next month, I've been ploughing all my spare time into this lately (at the very tolerant annoyance of my other half!). The console segments are all painted now, the aluminium panels cut and filed (that was fun!), and I'm now on to the assembly of the individual console panels. For the black seperator lines I've used basic electrical tape, which looks great and allows for repositioning. This is panel #2, which I've slightly adapted from the original as I found that large white perspex screen a bit dull...

Panel #5 details (sorry, posting these out of sync as I complete them). There was no photo reference for this panel as it always facing away from screen (likehood is it was blank anyway perhaps?!). So this one I completely made up. Thought a joystick would be fun here...

Here some shots of how the rest is coming together. Still quite a bit to do, like painting the probes, top centre panel, side hatch, electrics...But I reckon another month till it's mostly there.
