In my own head-cannon I think the Doctor took a pair of Dalek ears as a trophy and mounted them as forward running lights.

Of course the auton hand will one-day be the Doctor's undoing.

Hi warmcanofcoke

That’s not quite right. The end of the original chassis has to be cut off. That’s probably why your wheels aren’t lining up properly with the overlaid chassis.

Look at the restoration section of my Bessie website. www.doctorwhocar.co.uk
You can see that when I started my restoration the car originally had the complete longer chassis which held a basket when I first got the car. I had to saw this off and make a back plate to hold the rear lights and number plate.

It will fit better if you line up the middle of the wheels with the wheelbase dimension.

Hi DrDean, glad you're still here.

So sort of like this?:
[redacted]

No not quite. If you look at the other projection looking down onto the chassis it actually says C/L (centre line) of front wheel and C/L of rear axle. These are the lines that should pass through the centre of the wheels. Hope that makes sense. Those loop shape sections that you’ve got in the middle of the wheel hub is probably the suspension leaf spring holder. The wheelbase distance is between the centre of the wheels.

Oh, is that what that inverted pound note means?

View attachment 234976Time Monster Bessie Ortho 2.jpg

Better?

That strange symbol is an interlocked C and L. It’s standard notation for centre line.

Yes that overlay is much better. Well done.

If you look closely at the photo you can actually see the chassis. The body kit sits on the chassis and overlaps it a little bit. The black area under the car is the edge of the chassis. You can probably overlay the chassis with the photo now that you have the wheelbase correct. Look at the way the chassis rises up just before the back wheel. It’s nearly overlaid already. The zero line should lie along the bottom edge of the chassis too. If you’re struggling it’s probably because the photo isn’t a true orthographic projection and the perspective is making it difficult.

If you need any specific measurements just let me know (or PM me). I can either measure it on my replica or take a photo against a tape measure.

I decided to rotate the image to get the car to lineup with the diagram. Not as orthogonal as I had hoped. This is about as close as I can get, I think.

I wish we had an overhead shot of Bessie for the diagram.

overhead shot..png but I digress.

Interesting colouring on that Dalek - it almost looks green, but I'm assuming it's a grey, and the tint is due to the age of the photo.
Still, with the yellowish slats it looked, for a split second, like one of the Ironsides had Temporal-shifted to the 80's!

Side note: It looks like Bessie lost her pin-striping some time after the Blackpool exhibition? Maybe they came off when they removed the extremely obtrusive 'neon' style Doctor Who logos?
