Adventures in resin printing

Last year I bought myself a resin printer and have been having a ball pulling stuff from my zbrush files and using up a whole lot of resin. Some of you may remember the Art Deco console room I did a few years ago. I thought this newel post finial would be a good object to print out.consoleroom1.jpgconsoleroom2.jpg

Hmm... I'm obviously doing something wrong as I can't see the photos I uploaded, unless I'm in the thread and then the last set are all out of proportion.

There is an annoying additional step in the current board software.  Once you've uploaded files, you need to open the "Attachments and other options" dropdown under the post.  Each of the uploaded files will appear underneath in a green box, with the options "DELETE" and "INSERT".  You need to select "INSERT" to make the images appear.

I literally don't even know where to begin.

1) It's so surreal and amazing to see (if I'm understanding this right) such a seamless combination of virtual and physical elements in a...outside a big budget movie; that just some *guy* (no offense) with a computer a 3D printer, and the right software and know-how can whip up something so cool--and then stick it in a virtual environment where you can't tell what is real and what is virtual.  Amazing.

2) The finished works are spectacular.

3) Even the WiP of the bust wit the "girders" supporting it is pretty cool.  A little like something H.R. Giger might do if someone said "can you tone it down a bit and be less weird?"

4) I'd be inclined to go a lot more bananas on the Seal of Rassilon on the bust, but dang, it's hard to nitpick something so cool and well executed.

Thank you. I really like the support 'girders' as well. They somehow give it a massive sense of scale, like a fallen monument in the distance. All totally automatic and nothing to do with me.

Ummm... I didn't think I'd put the seal of Rassilon anywhere. I try to avoid stuff like that, it's been very overused.

The virtual environment came first, incidentally. I pulled the newel post bust out of it to print.

And no offence taken at all - lol.

Wow your sculpts are amazing! So much detail in the prints, they are gorgeous.

You've done a brilliant job of removing the supports too. I find it's too easy to damage the print when removing supports, they look perfect.

Thank you. I find it's easier to remove them before curing the print. Then, afterwards, sand any bits left behind

Your prints are beautiful!

Loved your Console Room too, I was always hoping to see some more and a dare I dream, a fly though. :D

I would have done more but my old pc died just after I did the door area and I never got round to it when I got a new one. Now however, I'm thinking an actual real life version of the bakelite console might not be impossible, with resin printed elements.... Gawd knows where I'd put it though.
