3D Wood Grain Texture In Blender

I know this has been asked before here but I have been trying for ages to apply a 3d wood grain effect onto the surface of a Tardis model for 3D printing. I have been trying to use blender but its just so complicated that none of the online tutorials I have found are specific enough for what I'm trying to do. I am able to unwrap the parts easily but I don't really know what to do from there. To be clear, I don't want to put one texture over the whole box, I need it so that the grain goes in the right directions for all the parts. Would be very grateful if someone could outline what I need to do. Thanks!
