21st Century Met Box - The Spirit of the Law!

While they may have lost the right to use the TARDIS design, this hasn't stopped some clever soul nicking a few of its design leads for this brand new Police Box in Piccadilly Circus, London.

The old Police Post is still there too.

Hello Mr. Bollo,

Nice pictures, thanks for sharing.

It's a little far to travel there myself and I've seen nothing of this box (well, Hall may be more suitable!) until now.

As far as I figure, the Met (or any other force), could quite happily use the TARDIS style police box as there is nothing in the Trade Marks case saying that a police box can't be used as a police box!

How long as this been in use?

Gosh, very over-enthusiastic bit of Tardis-building going on there. Seems that they've only lost the right to use the police box as a trademark - evidently they can still build the things. So is this permantly sited there?

It's been there a while, but I've no idea when it appeared (no pun intended).

I noticed it a few months ago, as I trundled by on the No.38 bus, but only had a chance to nip down to Piccadilly on foot a couple of days ago. It didn't open to any kind of fanfare or PR onslaught, and I can't find any mention of it at all on that there internet thing.

I assume they built it in anticipation of another annual May Day protest, as it looks more like an observation platform/pilbox than anything else.

Hmm... I can find a blogger's reference to it from April this year - "I know that Doctor Who has been a big success, but is there really a need for a limousine Tardis like this?" - but nothing else at all.

I read last year about a traditional-style police box planned for somewhere near Tower Bridge... did it happen, d'you know?

Prefabricated metal panels I think.
I tapped it experimentally, but not too much as it's bristling with tiny CCTV cameras and observation windows...

I saw the Piccadilly Circus stretch-police-box last week and it's still looking very smart.
I still don't know anything about it

I kinda liked the blue panels when I was up close.

Hmmm I was just looking at those initial pictures again - I hadn't noticed before, but it looks like the box has attracted some alien attention....
What are we supposed to be seeing in that corner?!
Took me a while, but there appears to be two Daleks there!

Amazing you should spot that Crispin! ;D

How bizarre

TM!
It's intriguing. I'd assumed when I saw it that there were actually a couple of daleks behind the camera taking part in some publicity event and that we're seeing their reflection. But it doesn't seem that likely given the location...
Very mysterious.

Perhaps one of the resident officers is a big Who fan and has a poster in the window.

ok not wanting to sound like some sort of non believing spod, but its the reflection of the windows from the building opposite, the colour difference is probably sometyhing to do with the angle of reflection, you can see the windows reflected in other panels.
Not that its isnt a bizarre co incidence or anything

You non-believer mugsy  :o  lol

In my experience, London is full of Daleks (although most of them without their outer shell)
TG :)

Crispin – your signature  :) I love The Clock of the Long Now (especially the cuckoo idea -It's sure to make somebody jump)

No one seems to have grasped what has happened here with this rather large police pavilion.

The chameleon circuit has functioned again!  :P

How long for this time I wonder?  ::)

The reflected 'Daleks' well Who knows, 'Who' usually does. lol.  ;)
Well spotted Crispin!  8-)
