2010 NSDW D Prop Wooden TARDIS

Sooo... My first shot at expoxy résine went very well. It's not perfect and i allready have a new lamp in the making for this box, but for now it will be good enought until i change my mind.
So basicly, it's some us coper coin on the top with some fimo to sculpte the lamp cap and nipple, and some 1euro cent coins for the rest of the body of the lamp. I used those because they were the right diamètre and also because if the paint cheapos away, it will show coper or brass under it.
The fresnel is now made out of résine that i casted in a cylindrical shape using à old glue tube and then worked with my dremel and my cutter. Like i was wood turning.
Here are some pictures

IMG_20210529_011329_338.jpgIMG_20210529_011323_957.jpg cap and the main body of the lamp painted with à undersised hot glue stick fresnel lence. This time i'm made the métal clips and hinges of the lamp

IMG_20210529_011318_241.jpg this is the final cast of the epoxy

IMG_20210529_011252_774.jpgIMG_20210529_011251_215.jpgIMG_20210529_011250_144.jpg and the finished product. Btw, i've noticed my super glu reacted with the paint, wich i'll have to find à way to fix.

Also, here is à little "how to assemblé this box"

IMG_20210529_011303_140.jpgfirst, here are all the pièces, all flat ready to travel in a bag. It mostly disassembles and assemblés the same with similar pièces then the real prop does.

IMG_20210529_011307_980.jpgIMG_20210529_011309_587.jpgIMG_20210529_011306_766.jpg
First put on the floor of the base, and incert each corner posts in to their own slot (F=front B=back G=left D=right)

IMG_20210529_011305_209.jpg clip the doors into their hinges

IMG_20210529_011310_786.jpg
Fit in the side pannel slots in the posts and base grooves the acording the left, right and back(mind the hinges)

IMG_20210529_011312_679.jpgIMG_20210529_011313_942.jpg put on the sign boxes to the corresponding sides

IMG_20210529_011315_953.jpg then the roof and door panel and you're off !

And to finish it, here is à little photo shoot with my other propsIMG_20210529_011301_402.jpgIMG_20210529_011300_368.jpgIMG_20210529_011258_680.jpgIMG_20210529_011257_038.jpgIMG_20210529_011256_130.jpgIMG_20210529_011253_864.jpgIMG_20210529_011248_422.jpgIMG_20210529_011245_544.jpgIMG_20210529_011243_917.jpg

What a beautiful line-up of boxes! I am jealous of both your model-building and photography skills! The new 2010 lamp is really good.

Yeah, it's kind of like "There's nothing wrong with the old on...ohhhh, I see..."  It's wild, how some of the little details don't seem like they'd be worth the effort to fine-tune until you do it and it makes a huge difference (to people like us. Way back, when I did my first refit I showed a friend who was a casual Doctor Who fan before and after pictures and he didn't see the difference. lol.)

i think your box evolved into a very cool one. for me, it really came to life when you remade the posts and sign boxes. the proportions

as for my lamp, i'll still need to redo it at some point when i'll be better at working resins.

I've tried à New location for shooting photos and went with the D box. It was horrible to work with because of the hit and some designs flows. The roof got damages à bit in the procès so i'll have to fix and mod all that needs mods.

The broken handle just lends a BBC props department verisimilitude to the location shots.

Smith did broke à few apparently, so i guess you're right. He dangled à lot from those in and in between shots.

Fixed and way more durable.
I guess this is how i'll do stuff in the future.
So now i'm using à very soft métal wire (zamak i think) tha i flatten on the tips and à bit on the middle to make the handles, letting spare exess on the tips bent as sharp of à 90° angle i can get to act as a nails. There Is no extra glue, but if it brokes or if i need even more robuste handles (for sanding scratches and abusive use)

So here is à broken test pièce. IMG_20210621_192307_510.jpgIMG_20210621_192305_086.jpg

And here is the final resultIMG_20210621_192302_860.jpg

Tardis D prop update
I have made the smallest hinges i've ever scratch built.
So i proudly anounce that the next props will feature à openable phone pannel.
Thanks to that cheap dremel tool. It's very handy.
This one wont feature à phone, other wise the pull to open sign wont light up. Maybe à remouvable one later.

Édit: if you dremel métal like i did or anything else, please wear eye protection and, if needed, masks.

Edit: i'll have to think about à remouvable one anyway, or it will get it the way of the door. The big one this time, not the just the Phone pannel.
It would be acurate on a box with the Toyota interior i guess...
More things to think and draft about.
Anyway, enjoy^^

So here is how it looks nowIMG_20210721_233215_062.jpgIMG_20210721_233212_758.jpgIMG_20210721_233211_376.jpg

And it's as fonctionnal as it looks

You'd be forgiven for thinking these were photos of the full size prop! Amazing work.
Every time I open this thread the forum currently takes me to the top of this page, and every time I think that first picture is a full-size box!

More stuff

Those night shots were plagued by big stadium spots, so there is a big series 1 wibe to the lighting IMG_20210826_153441_198.jpgIMG_20210826_153439_223.jpgIMG_20210826_153426_847.jpgIMG_20210826_153429_871.jpgIMG_20210826_153432_116.jpg

You're right, there's something about those night-time shots that really captures that 2005 vibe - I almost expect 9 and Rose to go running past!  ;D

I thibk it's mostly due to the haed white lighting and the bluriness of my zooms. Shooting out there was really tricky for how crowded was the place.
And also i guess the wheel in the back ground complets the vibe
