I want to Upgrade the figure with a Vest from Dark Water/Death in Heaven, Needed to see how the figure was put together.  :P
why doesn't the Guide mention them? - Oh, it's not very accurate.
Oh? - I'm researching the new edition.

So, ... My Achilles Tendon is swollen and pain FM is broadcasting. A bunch of adventures in various different waiting rooms took place over the last two days. An ultrasound suggests there is a weird gap in my Tendon full of fluid, also I am told my ankles are arthritic, so took today off. Having an MRI on thursday. I am wearing this large boot over my left leg that is the only thing that lets me walk to the loo.

The stars are in alignment. Lets talk tardisbuilding.

I had recently started cutting sections of the layercake [The acrylic stars of the time rotor.]

IMG_9739.jpg

There are minor imperfections from the cutting process that make me want to do these over.

Nate, any of those imperfections you mention aren't visible to me. Those "stars" for the layers of the wedding cake innards for that central column look spot on, and you've cut out quite a few (which is no small feat from the looks of it). Unless there are "in your face" imperfections like a badly chipped star point, or large crack, I go as far as saying what you've cut out so far is perfect. (Remember that saying: "You are your own worst critic." You could draw those out to within that 0.5mm tolerance, have them laser cut, and you could still find what you perceive as imperfections.)

So don't let it get to you. Don't be so hard on yourself. You're doing a bang-up job on those pieces and I doubt I'm the only one here who thinks that. Keep up that smashing great work! (And I wish I still had access to sheets of plexi/ perspex like that. I can think of half a dozen things I could do with all of those center circles you've cut out of the stars. Ah... I just realized I'd also need one of those neat cutting bits you've got for making the circular cuts. :P Oh well. Maybe one day.)

Until then, I'll live this build through your eyes and marvel at what you're accomplishing! (And on that note...)

Thanks Dino  ;)

So I placed a sheet of transparent acrylic up in front of the video projector and started tracing.

It is 2 am where I am - going to take some much needed rest before I do more.

So I'm supposed to do as much resting as possible and Will have to keep the boot on for a while.

And nothing is more restful than crafting your own TARDIS.

First stage complete.

Now I will have to drill guide holes in the center of each layer so the hole saw can make cuts.

that rotor is incredibly complex. Nowadays you would achieve the same results with Laser cutting. Lord alone knows how they managed to cut that much acrylic so precisely back 1983...

Looking forward to see in the progress on this one Nate. Hope the foot is OK?

Mark

I've just done this rotor in sketch-up and I have to say that I did go into it with apprehension but it is actually really easy.

I used the time rotor thread and the same drawings Nate is using, really happy with the results.

Got me thinking of making a full size rotor to sit on the side as a feature.

Watching this thread with keen interest Nate :)

Thanks guys  :D

My foot will be in the brace/boot/cast thing for maybe 6 weeks or so. I have a followup with the Doctor in 2 weeks. I find that I get a lot more TARDIS building done during these times of ambulatory distress.

I have to admit I'm unfamiliar with the costs of laser cutting, but I imagine they would wish to use their own acrylic, and not the acrylic I went dumpster diving for.

For a time I was intimidated by people with 3d modeling skills, but I figure the original console was built in a time when such luxuries didn't exist.

I hope my efforts are rewarded.

How tall are the clear acrylic triangular rods? / How tall is each stage? I have a lot of cutting and bonding ahead of me.

I do wish I knew of places near me that had skips full of waste materials that would be of use to me, so far I have found nothing. Ah well, one day...

I originally built a couple of roundel walls to use for playing/practicing at rendering things and you know how things progress, so I have a 90% completed console room and a console minus controls and red slats.

I used the measurements given by Lespaceplie back in 2014 and the drawings I presumed you had made of each layer.

He gave each layer as 6cm high.. I only used equilateral triangles as I forgot about the other type he used on the plans.

If the Sketch Up file could be of use to you I will happily email it over. I've tried to be as accurate with measurements on the console as possible but it's not perfect (such as ommiting panel seams etc)
