I know this gallery is for props that we built but I had the help of a friend and his dad who is a carpenter, so I hope this can still count here since it's not a "prop from a shop".  

The main building was done by my friend's dad, Michael Cosentino, while Jimmy Cosentino himself did the painting. Over the years I've done a few modifications, nothing too notable, although I sourced the screen accurate parts with the help of friends, and then took care of modding some of them as well. Now, I call this a "Series 4 style" build mainly because of the beefed up nature of the posts and a few other details, but really this box is made from modified Series 5 box plans. So certain aspects, such as the door frame construction, are actually a Series 5 design. I'm sure most of you can spot the differences given all the research done here. The reason for this was because Jimmy and his dad had planned to make a Smith box before I had asked them if a Tennant box could be done, and while I typically like to get as accurate as I can, I was perfectly okay with the box being a mixed heritage.

The build was started in March of 2012 and finished in June of 2013. In the beginning I started sourcing parts for the build, long before I ever know I was even going to be able to build one or have one built. The first thing that I picked up was the screen accurate ERA lock and keys, maybe too many keys lol, and then I sourced parts like the floor bolt and the Tennant era TARDIS keys; which we on the RPF chose an alt brand made by JMA as they were still silver when the logo was sanded off.

Chris Kingbees helped me get screen accurate door handles for the build, and Justin Monk found the screen accurate lantern for me, as well as made all of the top signs. Justin also had the metal PTO sign cut, corner holes drilled, and vinyl letters made up, which Jimmy painted and finished.

Since I already covered the start and end build date above, in this post I'll just add an assortment of build photos with no real commentary as I'm sure you've seen it all here and as they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. But I'll be happy to answer any questions if anyone has any.

On April 7th, 2013, I was able to visit the workshop and see the progress of the build. Naturally, I had to dress the part




Here I was able to fit my Tennant era key into the TARDIS lock for the first time, and this was also the first time the old girl was fully built before the painting began.





More pics of the painting and after as soon as I can, time may be running short now. We'll see!

Here's a selection of pictures from when the painting process began. If I'm honest, I sort of wish I had stuck with the original pale blue that I found as it matched the build photos from Series 1, but in the end Jimmy felt that he could do a better color match with this Cosmos Blue we found. That said, I do love the color of my box, however I may one day repaint it again to try to better match the show.

I should also say that we purposefully chose not the burn or score the box so as to prolong it's life. So that's one screen accurate process that we dropped, which just seemed to make sense.

By June of 2013, it was time to take the old girl home!



... or, more accurately, to Wizard World Comic Con 2013 (which I believe was the weekend of the May/June changeover)





Here's a shot taken some time after I've had the old girl home for some time. She's an indoor box, but this day we took her out for a photoshoot with some Doctor Who cosplay friends.

I later did some minor upgrades in 2014; The first was to the windows, which were done pretty much the same way as the show did for 2005-2010 with clear plexiglass that has been sanded to create the frosted look and then painted to look distressed and dirty. Unfortunately, when my box was built, the sanded sides faced outwards and I just didn't like the dull look of it, which I suppose is a personal preference. So this simple mod was to reverse the window panes, which I feel achieved a much better affect.



Another change I made was to the top signs.  For my build Jimmy had ordered white signs, possibly a left over from the Smith box plans - rather than the frosted look of the Eccleston/Tennant, so I had asked Justin Monk to make up new signs for me, and I am so much happier with them.

Here are some set up shots from Wizard World 2014 with the windows now flipped, and the new top signs installed. I've got a great group of friends who are always willing to help out whenever I take my box to a con.

Well, you've got plenty of build photos, so I reckon this fits in here just fine.

May I be the first to say what an absolute beauty she is? The attention to detail, everything from the screen accurate lock and keys, to the weathering, is just completely astounding (I think I'm going to run out of superlatives before the end of this post ) You've even got the interior flooring spot on as well!! I'm insanely jealous of your build (and you even bear a remarkable resemblance to Tennant as well - so I think you deserve such a fantastically detailed TARDIS!)

And as a bit of a TARDIS key collector myself (although my keys are nowhere near as accurate or well-researched as yours) I can definitely tell you that there's no such thing as too many keys - or any other prop for that matter!

Here's a selection of convention photos from her last round out on the con circuit. I haven't taken the old girl to a con for a while now, although I'd like to, but my life went through some changes over the past few years and the con stuff went on the back burner. So did any progress on the box. I still plan to add the lights, maybe sound, a backdrop possibly, and the phone at some point, but as things usually are with this stuff, she's a work in progress.

First up is a Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Party at a friend's house where we were all set to watch "Day of the Doctor" and have a fun photoshoot with the box.

Thanks for all the kind words on my box and my cosplay, I really appreciate that. The screen accurate door lock, keys and floor bolt I pretty much found on my own, but Chris Kingbees came to my rescue on the handles and Justin Monk found the SA lantern for me. I was VERY lucky with this box in so many ways! The flooring is very close but not exact, we couldn't find anything that matched exactly but I was so happy that we found this one

I'm quite jealous that your box is collapsable/moveable, too- if I tried that with mine I'd end up nursing a hernia!

Thank you Russell! For both the comments on my box and my Tennant look.

The main intent for my box, outside of owning one, was to make films with it so we took inspiration from the New Series construction and made my box easily collapsable to be able to do so. That said, it can be a bit much to move even still, but worth it.

And yeah, it took some time for the New Series Police Box to grown on me too. I always wanted a Season 18 or TVM box but by the time this opportunity came up, I had a new appreciation for the NST and it was the one we had the plans to, so the choice was made!

You've got a beautiful box, I'm envious, and seeing this post makes me miss my Tennant box, but that's the downside of having an outdoor box, the British weather doesn't do any good, be glad yours is an indoor box

Thank you, BioDoctor900, I'm quite happy with it. I had known of the issues with an outside box long before my box was ever made which was why I chose to make it an indoor box. I want it to have a nice happy long life. Of course I wanted to film with it, and I did, and then I wanted to go to cons with it, and I did, and I still want to do those things but right now my box is living in storage due to a recent move. Hopefully I'll have her out of there soon enough, but at least she's safe.
