There might not be very many comments posted, acialist (still want to call you "TG5" for short for your previous username), but don't let that discourage you. Just look for the names across the bottom of one of your Updates or other posts and see the number of names that clicked that "Like Message" link. Not everyone uses them, but those who do are letting you know that they're following along and they like what they see. (Also look at how many times your posts have been read, and watch the count go up.)

Everything is looking brilliant so far. I can't wait to see you get down and dirty with the controls on the panels!

I actually came across this little gem last night, but I was too tired to post anything of any sense, so I left the tab open on my phone to write a proper comment in the morning.

This is shaping up to be a really wonderful design acialist! (I love the little nods to the 1996 console, with the "shelf" around the console panels and those pillars - but the more mechanical twist you've managed to achieve looks brilliantly effective!)

I can't wait to see you tackle the rest of the panels (I do love custom console builds - whether they be "real world" or virtual.

WOW!!! This is simply stunning! I especially love how you've managed to play around with the shape of the panel and have it merge into that outer shelf! Sheer genius (and certainly not something I've ever seen before.) If this is only a taster of what we'll be seeing in this build, I can't wait to see the rest of the panels.

Now if anyone would be willing to build this for me in real life, I'll give you a packet of jelly babies in return; a fair deal if you ask me.

First, I'd like to think it is used to figure out either where in time and space you are, or time readout dials and such. Still deciding.

Second, Google Sketchup, the program I have been using since probably 2010 or 2011. I am most comfortable with it, and I don't
really have the time to jump over the learning curve of something like, say, Blender.

Looking at this panel, I think you've got enough controls on it to do both. You've got what looks like LCD readouts on the left and right side near the desk surface. One could tell you the time (century, the dial above it can narrow that down to a specific date as to "when" you are), and the other can give you the spacial coordinates (either in galactic latitude and longitude - yes, being involved with astronomy I can assure you those are real terms with real values - or in the Right Ascension and Declination, both selectable via the dial above it, with extra positions for those coordinates to be set relative to Earth, or the Galactic Center which would be really helpful if you're in another galaxy).

Then with the flip of one of the twin levers higher up on the panel you can change the LCD readouts to display the time of day on one, and the day of the week on the other (depending on where you are, the day's name could change, like if you're on the planet Zircon in the Triangulum Galaxy, the day could be "Menelya" and it could be the 9th day of the week, going into the 29th hour, an hour before midnight).

The possibilities of what this one panel can do are great, especially with those twin levers and the dials above the readouts, and that large dial between the smaller ones, not to mention the "spinner"? controls below those readouts (fine tuners?)

I can hardly wait to see what you've got in store for the other panels! This is truly amazing.

i will probably (once all the panels are done) have this cleaned up with just numbers and a list to the side explaining things and such.
but as for now, this is what I've come up with as far as purpose for things

Well, taking the second part of the above question first... you haven't seen my computer desks! (I know Richard - superrichi1a - has; we had a fantastic visit this past Friday; he can tell you what a clutter my desks are!). As one of my bosses used have on his desk: a sign saying "A tidy desk is the sign of a sick mind."

As to the first part (just suggestions), there could be a spot for a mouse (more like a trackball) for moving the cursor around the screen (right above those switches to the right of the keyboard would be a good place for it). Then (as a back-up for notes that you might want to have with you once you leave your TARDIS to solve whatever problem you're facing), on the panel to the left of the keyboard you could have a recess (like the one for the keyboard) that serves as a spot for a notepad and some pencils or pens. And then just above the monitor, two small speakers (one on each side for stereo output), and between them a small microphone so your computer screen can have audio input and output, and if you also wanted, a "webcam" so you could have two-way audio-visual comms from the console... unless the monitor has a built-in camera, then you can forgo the webcam. (You've got those four small switches/ knobs just above the monitor already. One could turn the monitor on and off, one could turn the microphone on or off (active/mute), and the round ones could be for controlling the volume of the speakers and the mic input.)

That would make this panel look more functional, yet still keep it minimalistic.

Does any of that makes sense?

You may want to look at a few keyboards that have built-in trackpads or trackballs for inspiration. Perhaps add a "universal" charge/data port for devices?
