Great grabs, Chris! Yes; this pinpoints when the 3rd Doctor's sonic got its makeover. I also see that he's using it with the pointed (bullet) end aimed away rather than at the mechanism he's trying to manipulate. It seems he used it with the bullet pointing both ways. (Maybe that's a dual emitter head? Sort of like one of those reversible Philip's head/Flat head screwdriver tips you can use in an electric screwdriver/drill chuck?)
