I wasn't sure whether to spoiler-tag this topic, since this is something that was first seen at the very beginning of the series, but since some of the screengrabs are from the latest episodes I've decided to err on the side of caution.

Ep.1 - The Pilot

The part I'm most interested in here is what I can only imagine is the vault's lock, with the Gallifreyan symbols and red LED lights.

Looking at these images here, there appears to be a removable panel on the right-hand side of the lock, which Nardole removes (this may also be the case for the left-hand side of the vault, as there appears to be a symmetrical joining line on that side too)

Ep.3 - Thin Ice

As far as I can remember, the vault wasn't shown in Smile so I'm skipping straight to episode 3 of the series.

Finally, we get some nice head-on shots of the lock, clearly showing the layout of all the  Gallifreyan symbols.

Ep.4 - Knock Knock

Here we get some nice side-on shots showing the depth of the Gallifreyan symbols. Nardole also presses a button in the top-left corner, causing four sections to swivel out of the lock.

In one of the images here, there appears to be a keypad of some sorts on one of the slide-out sections (cropped and edited to show more detail)
As far as I remember we don't really see anyone using this, so it's unclear whether this is actually a keypad or just a decorative feature.

Actually we do see this keypad being used; after Nardole has gone and the Doctor's talking to whoever/whatever's inside, we see the Doctor rapidly keying in a long sequence into that keypad as part of opening the vault.  It's not necessarily numeric (I don't think we can make out any symbols) but it's definitely intended to represent a functional keypad (whether the actual prop has buttons that press in or not).

Today I rewatched The Pilot and took some screengrabs of the access panel that Nardole opens up.

However, what I discovered is really confusing.

The Gallifreyan symbols appear to be a different shape between episodes 1 and 3. In episode 1, there is the main symbol in the centre, with three octagons next to it (each with a red LED in the centre.) However, in Thin Ice (see below), the three octagons have been replaced with a different symbol.

Does anyone have any ideas whatsoever about this, because it's definitely got me scratching my head. ???

Thanks to some new information from Extremis, I've edited the title of the thread to match the official name given to the vault.

And here's another screengrab of the vault door from The Pilot, showing the three octagons that were only present in this episode - after this they switched the right-hand side to be symmetrical to the left.

After checking back at the screengrabs from The Pilot, it seems I was wrong. They didn't just change the right-hand side of the vault and remove that access cover; they rebuilt the entire thing. If you look here, the symbol on the left hand side was flipped vertically between The Pilot and Thin Ice, and the central symbol appears to be the same.

This does complicate things slightly in terms of producing a template, although I think I'll stick with the episode 1 version of the most part (and fill in some details that can't be seen with the later version)

I'm finally getting somewhere with that template for the vault lock. Luckily, the symbols appear to be based on the ones from the console room whirligig, so thanks to the fantastic work done by the doctor who2 in his http://tardisbuilders.com/index.php?topic=46918 thread, I was able to modify the symbols in Paint.NET to make them more accurate to the ones on the vault.

At the moment I'm working on the Thin Ice-onwards version of the vault, as it was much easier to overlay the pieces over that nice head-on shot from the episode. Once I finish this half of the vault, all I need to do is mirror it for the other side, and after that I'll work on the one from The Pilot.

Let me know what you think so far.

Checking back on shots from Extremis, it looks like that was with the same version as The Pilot, i.e. with the three octagons on the right, asymmetric etc.  See attached screenshot from before the opening titles; on the right side (just to the left of the Doctor's face) you can see the hexagons again.  And the stuff on the left is clearly different to what The14thDr has highlighted from Thin Ice.  So depending on production order we may get to see more detail of each version as time goes on.

Excellent!! Thank you, No More! I never noticed that it was the Pilot version in last night's episode, so well spotted. That screengrab will be useful for when I get round to drawing out the other version of the Vault (this will most likely be the version I go with when I get round to this build.)
