And it seems you're describing something close to the concept behind the War Doctor's console! I do love that one, despite the way I think it's somewhat lazily designed. Much lie his costume. Did someone just wake up and decide that the War Doctor must necessarily look like a direct cross between the incarnations to either side of him?
Given my way, I'd have made the War Doctor's TARDIS dark and forbidding. Somewhere that once was fun before being used as a weapon. Maybe the roundel lights long ago stopped working? Or there are bits grafted onto the console invasively to make it stronger.
