Don't know if this has been mentioned before, but I haven't see it.
This is something I noticed with the Doctor's Sonic Screwdriver in "Destiny of The Daleks" that I hadn't noticed before,

Normal,

Different, can you see it?

The very end is extended. Anyone noticed this before?  ??? :o :D

Yeah, the head is telescopic. It's been mentioned for a while (although i'd never noticed it until recently, myself...) :)

I don't think it extends very often though.

I noticed it when watching the episodes back then and thought it looked sort of flimsy. I don't know exactly when (I didn't pay that much attention at the time), but not long after they stopped extending the tip. In fact, in "Robot", that tip on the sonic was removable and the Doctor attaches it before trying to cut his way into the bunker where that Robot was holding Sarah Jane.

I think I remember reading somewhere (probably a Starlog interview) that said the tip kept breaking off. Maybe that's why they stopped extending it; they got tired of having to repair it.

A friend of mine Brian Terranova has done extensive research on all the models of the classic Sonic,  this is one of the variations that Tom had.

I don't suppose his research is available to read, anywhere?

I need to check on that actually,  he has it compiled but not sure if he has it posted anywhere.

I thought that it was always the same basic prop that they just modified over time and was finally stolen from JNT's office.

The ones at the DW Experience are fake despite what it says. The 4th is clearly an old Time Lord's pocket model, not sure about the 3rd. They can't both be genuine because there was only ever one and even if one was genuine it's stolen property, had a word with the curator about it last time I was there.

Oh you are right there, but there are other modifications and changes that occurred from doctor to doctor. subtle ones mostly due to age related use, but there none the less.

Oh I see, sorry, misunderstood, I thought there was an implication that there were multiple props and as I say I was given to believe there weren't. My mistake.
