The SJA badge really shows the difference between the size of the 1963 prop and the new series.  I used the same one (thanks Dino) because I wasn't going for screen-accurate and wanted it closer to an actual police box.  It looks huge on a panel with the Barachaki dimensions.  But, like the white phone door panel, I've gradually got used to it so now it looks right.  Now I see it on a nuTARDIS and I'm like "wow, that's a tiny SJA badge."

so i finally got round to finishing up the frame for the roof,
its surprisingly strong despite its lightweight appearance


the box for the lamp has also had some changes made to it, to accommodate the lamp

so today has been a great day for tardis building, i did a bit of the electronics in the morning and more on the roof in the workshop.

the panels for the roof have all been cut out


and they all fit on pretty much perfectly


after a bit of planing and adjusting they all fit together like a beauty
so that means its time for that horrible sticky stuff again


all glued and screwed with some extra pins to help keep it in place

all of the stuff is to just help keep the panels even

and the whole box was moved to the middle of the workshop for the final assembly which will take place tomorrow before its all taken down, sanded and finally....PAINTED


and yep working into the late hours as usual

the roof is going to have a layer of fibreglass put on it tomorrow to help protect it against the beautiful British weather(as if)

you're doing a really great job on this, it's a credit to you & your skills. After this if you showed it to a potential employer, (depending if you need a job or want one as a cabinet maker) this would be great as a resume'.

It's hard not to get a little jealous about this build.  I was over 40 before I managed to build a TARDIS.  And even then, the workmanship was nothing on par with this.  I mean, I love my TARDIS.  I'd pick a Hartnell TARDIS over a Capaldi TARDIS any day.  And I wasn't ready for a TARDIS before I built mine.  I also know, rationally, that this isn't a competition.  But there's a reason the story of Cain & Abel is in the Bible.  Our brains are, for some reason, wired for it.  Luckily, we're able to rise above it and be happy for such wonderful builds--and for you for sharing the process with us. 

No doubt this has to be one of the neatest builds ever. Just incredible work here.

Ah... Other Steve, at least you have a TARDIS. I'm well over 50 and I'm still waiting. I started my build in 1983 when I acquired a Fresnel lens from the ship I was stationed on, and aside from a couple of door handles and some St. John logos, and maybe a lamp cap, it hasn't gotten any farther along since.

I'll agree with you there. About going with the Original Brachacki (Hartnell) over a modified Ed Thomas (Capaldi) TARDIS, I mean... and what the quality of my workmanship might be like. (And I see nothing wrong with yours.) But Bren's build is amazing. And when you really come down to it, a TARDIS is still a TARDIS. (Like a fine woman, just wearing a similar but different dress one day from the next.)

I've made the frame for the phone door today.
its just half joints on the ends so it still retains the butted together look at the joins

I the sign will sit in the rebate that's cut out of the back


oh yeah and this happened

It's still wet in the photos so that's why it looks glossy
and here's "the moment"

its only the doors that have any blue on yet but soon the rest should be getting the same treatment

i have to say i was torn between a Hartnell box or a Capaldi box, i think i went with the capaldi box mainly because he is one of my favorite doctors really.  but each to their own you know

The way i see it is whats the point in doing something unique if you cant share your experiences with others  

ooh the doors look pretty with the final coat of blue on
the window frames haven't been painted yet they only have the white primer on them so they'll be a lot neater when they're done


the rest of the box came down the other day so the rest of it could be primed.
here she is in her current state.

I've primed the cornerposts and given the base a coat of grey primer so they're all ready to be blue

as you can see i have painted the first coat of blue on 2 of the walls as well.

the roof also has a layer of fibreglass on it now to help protect it and its looking pretty good

and all the fibreglass is now hidden under a layer of primer
