Volpone

As we get a wave of new builds and they're all just a little different from each other but wonderful in their own way, I'll just mention a little fantasy of mine:  I wish they'd have a "The Chase" style story, where The Doctor keeps materializing and the Chameleon Circuit works a little bit, so instead of the BBC prop, he keeps getting out of each of our fan TARDISes.

Of course it would be hard to have a story that takes place in so many backyards, porches, living rooms, and pantries (given the relatively small number of portable TARDISes) and I'm sure the BBC doesn't have a budget to fly a crew all over the world for such a minor payoff, but I can dream anyway, right?

macgyvers workshop

Great looking light! I'm at the point of making mine now. I just got the glass bit thanks to volpone! I have the lantern top part and will have to modify it yet. I will put the process up on my YouTube channel and add it to the Tardis play list as we never seem to see any info on actually how its done.

So what are the dimensions of you Tardis? That base looks to be at least 5ft square?
And it goes without saying, you're doing an awesome job!

This one is definitely worthy of another

...especially after seeing the work done on that lamp base! Once again I wish I had the tools and knowhow to do what you're doing.

I wish I could help out with the Fresnel lens. Real ones are hard to find and are usually expensive when you do. EBay is one place to look, but you'll also find the flat kind as well as the kind you're looking for. Sometimes you can find them in antique or second-hand stores, still in old lanterns. Sometimes if you're lucky you'll find one of the right size in a battered lantern for less than $100 US. (I think I saw one for $45 US some years ago. The lantern was a mess, but it would have been worth it for the lens. I just took too long thinking on it and someone else snapped it up.) At least those are two or three suggestions to try: eBay, antique, and second-hand stores. You never know; you might get lucky.

I hope some of this was helpful.

thanks a lot Dino, I've had a couple go's on ebay but to no avail and any second hand shops in the local area don't really stock that sort of stuff but i guess if i really cant find one then i'll just have to make my own

IMG_8746.JPG

the workshop has been cleared up so there is more space to do things like make the rest of the roof and hopefully soon get some paint on
IMG_8744.JPG

i made the wooden base for the lamp to sit in while i had a bit of time.
do ya think i used enough clamps on it;D
IMG_8748.JPG

all cleaned up and nearly ready for the lamp
IMG_8751.JPG

The roof really makes it! Even without the sloped part.

I'm sure there's a picture of the ninth doctor leaning against the Tardis like that somewhere... :)

I don't think that you need paint. It's beautiful just the way it is!  ;D

Also, few things make me smile more than he taped-on signage.  We've all done it.  You can't wait to see how it will look, so you tape something on to help visualize it.  It is right up there with realizing just how big it is going to be.  I drew up plans and clearly knew it was going to be around 9' tall--even had all the sides laid out in my garage, taking up almost all the floor.  Heck, I even stood a couple sides against each other on my patio.  Still, when it came time to screw everything together I was like "Wow.  This is big."

not a very large update but the roof is off and the braces to hold the plywood on are all cut up to size
IMG_8755.JPG
they are in a similar configuration to Scarfwearers first tardis. i chose this method as it uses a bit less material so is lighter and should be quite strong enough to hold it all together

Also i did more work on the lamp today at college.
i made the top bit that the struts attach to
20170315_162133.jpg

you know, this bit
promo lamp.jpg
i drilled and tapped the hole in the top of it so the cap that ill be making soon just screws into it
its not 100% perfect but its not far off
