In the story"Dalek" they show a helicopter coming down & The voice of the helicopter pilot says: "Attention all personnel. Bad Wolf One descending. Bad Wolf One descending."

My Question is; What kind of helicopter is it as they only show it from the bottom & I'm not familiar with them. Pic below.

Thanks,

I couldn't find any photos of the undersides, at a guess this looks like a stripped-down version of an Apache helicopter. Since this was supposed to take place somewhere in the US (going by all of the American accents, attitudes, and uniforms - Adam excepted), it would make sense that an organization such as Van Statten's would have the funding to purchase a surplus Apache helo from the military for his personal use. (Or he may have been in charge of some sort of paramilitary organization - the unnamed US equivalent of UNIT, or Torchwood.)

Either that, or it could have been a Blue Thunder clone.

(Any "Rotor Heads" among us that have more knowledge than this sea-based Coastie?)

The reason I was inquiring, was that I was browsing my display of bits & noticed this Lego helicopter I have sitting on the shelves & it reminded me of the "Bad Wolf One" helicopter. I have just been looking for the box (don't throw anything away, it may come in useful) but can't find it to say what model it is. But here are a couple of pics of it.

It's definitely Blue Thunder - I think I read somewhere it was an outtake from either the movie or TV series.

Got similar shape so I think we may have solved another Doctor Who mystery!
Thanks for everyone's help & input, Cheers all.  :D  :)

Looking at the photo posted from the episode, that does appear to be an exact match for the Blue Thunder prop. Everything's there, even the machine gun.

The Blue Thunder copter was built from a AĆ©rospatiale SA-341G Gazelle, which has a large, bulbous cabin, and lacks the two sidepod engine manifolds. So, this wouldn't be a case of them using the same type of helicopter. The stock copter wouldn't look anything like that.
(It is, incidentally, the same style of copter used in the Max Headroom TV series as "Martinez' Chopper" - the red copter that Edison Carter uses to get around to his news stories)

So...that has got to be Blue Thunder in that shot.

But... here's the thing. On the wikipedia page about the Blue Thunder copter:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Thunder_%28helicopter%29

...it lists the three copters that were built. Two that flew, and one that was a static prop. All three were dismantled and scrapped by the time this episode was filmed.

That means, that the shot of the copter may well have been lifted from either the Blue Thunder movie, or the short-lived TV series which followed it, and used as stock footage.

Anyone got the DVD?

Here are some shots from 2007 showing the somewhat sorry state of the only surviving Blue Thunder prop, where it was left to rust on the Universal backlot.

Two years after these photos were taken, the prop was deemed to be in too dialpidated a state to save, and it was subsequently scrapped.

I've just booked it from through our library, so when it rocks up I'll get some screen shots of it (when ever that will be), so we'll have to wait unless someone has it on hand.

It's entirely possible. The wife and I recently watched the 'Mystery Science Theater 3000' episode "Space Mutiny", and all of the space scenes - fighter battles, starship exteriors - were lifted directly from the Classic 'Battlestar Galactica', including some of the internal fire/explosion scenes from the episode "Fire In Space". Notes on "Space Mutiny" say the director bought the VFX out-takes from 'Galactica' with the understanding that they could be used only on the "Space Mutiny" production, but looking at it, one would swear they just bought the rights to use the VFX footage as was the same as seen in the 'Galactica' premier episode (and "Fire In Space").

So maybe the BBC was able to get some cutting room floor footage of "Blue Thunder" from below for the few seconds it was seen in "Dalek". (Some of the film footage made its way into the 'Blue Thunder' series episodes, so why not a few seconds of a "belly shot" landing for 'Doctor Who'?)

Comparing that footage to the one in the first post above, I'd call that an exact match! Great job on those screen grabs, Chris! (Not that it was a chore; "Blue Thunder" was a good movie. :D)
