The Box nominally on Buchanan Street (originally just east of it on Cathedral Street) - A19

This Box is one of those still on the streets of Glasgow, though now some 300 yards south of its original location. It has been moved several times over the years, further and further south on Buchanan Street.

Found a photo of this Box that appears to be from some time in the 1960s --

This appears to be after it had already been moved from its original position. It's shown here on the east side of Buchanan Street just south of Cathedral Street.

OS Maps showing the original location of this Box (noting that none seem to show any of the Resites):

From 1951-1952 --

From 1966 --

As you can see, the original site layout was quite similar to that at Wilson Street, with the Police Box sited towards the western end of a central island (on Cathedral Street here) that also held the staircases to the underground public lavatories, with a telephone Kiosk in an identical position on the opposite end. The difference is that here the Kiosks were on the outside ends of the island, while at Wilson Street they were on the inside between the two staircase railings.

Another photo of the first Resite location looking back north towards the junction of Buchanan and Bath Street/Cathedral Street (looks to be some time from the 1980s or later) --

Mark 3 Ford Escort, so any time between 1980-1986 (assuming the car is brand new). An even better indication is the Ford Fiesta next to it (the rear light cluster identifies it as a Mark 2), which was in production between 1983-1989.

This Box has had a rather checkered past when it comes to paint jobs:

From when it was used as an art museum kiosk (c2009) --

The box currently sited on Buchanan Street was relocated from Royal Exchange Square. The box to the North on Buchanan Street i have off street.

Thanks for the info Ward.

Always good to know where a particular current Box came from along with the history of the nominal location.

Really? Hotdogs? As if the "Coppuccino", the ice cream cones stuck to its sides, the polka-dots with a "You've been spotted" sign weren't bad enough; now they have to resort to "HOTDOGS"? Oh, the indignity!

I was in Glasgow yesterday and was made very happy. Guess which box I saw?

I was in a rush, so my apologies for the poor quality.
For those interested, all four top signs currently read 'Bier Halle' which means 'beer hall' in German.

I hope someone finds these of interest.
Never wear black with colour; it makes the colour look cheap and the black look boring.

In the cities in the streets there's a tension you can feel,
The breaking strain is fast approaching, guns and riots.
Politicians gamble and lie to save their skins,
And the press get fed the scapegoats,
Public Enema Number One.
