Well here's something I started in anticipation of the new series, but got shelved due to my prepping for a full-scale console instead. Shame really, as this was something I could ACTUALLY build.
Here's what I have so far...

Really should've picked a background you could actually distinguish from the colours of the model... anyway, so far it's just a disassembled/reassembled Character Options console on a hexagonal top to square off the sides. I have parts for the typewriter, tv and gramaphone to go on, but I'm not sold on those side strut things (as I think there's three on the actual console?), so i might just take them off entirely.
More to come soon!

Monkey,

Did you enter that "Design the new TARDIS console" contest? You should have (or if there was an age limit gotten someone to enter your design for you). I like your version better than the Moffat-ish one. (Now, that's not to say that yon Moffat-ish console won't grow on me - it's already finding a soft spot with the wife and she has influences on me of galactic proportion {sometimes I think she's actually a Type 102 "Compassion" model} - but I think what you've got simply bodged together on a whim is a more traditional start to a console.) I also know that Mr. Moffat is trying to break with tradition to establish his mark on "Doctor Who", but it looks like he's giving the impression that he wants "Moffat Who" by taking such a departure.

And in all fairness, aside from the console (and that main title theme) I do like what Mr. Moffat has done with the show. RTD was a gem at bringing it back, but like JN-T in his days was starting to get too dark, and it's probably good that RTD left when he was still going to be missed by followers, rather than grossly outstaying his welcome as JN-T did. Even so many of the "Doctor Who" producers (yes, even JN-T) managed to keep at least one ear open to the show's followers. (Unlike the producers of reboot "Star Trek" movie, those in charge of the later TV series - "Voyager" and the much sorry "Enterprise" - all lost touch with the fan base. They began producing "Trek" based on what THEY wanted irregardless of what the fans had to say, and look what happened; we ended up with "Enterprise" when the fans were begging for a series with Captain Sulu and the USS Excelsior.

I don't think we've ever seen that sort of thing with any of the "Doctor Who" production people. So I say, now that Mr. Moffat has the proverbial ball and is running with it, "GO, MR. MOFFAT; GO! (But please remove some of that armor plate from around the console's central column so its innards show? People worked so hard to build it, so let us see what's working inside that glass column.)"

It's all just MHO. (And a ramble started by your great idea for a console, Monkey!)

I was thinking about doing it with my little cousin, but my family has strict rules about me using him as a kind of... figurehead. But that's another story.

I gotta agree with you about the new theme, definitely. And the new Dalek designs are a bit of a weird direction for me, but the writing so far has been excellent. But, yes, the way RTD handled the revival was just as much for the original fans as the new (UNlike Enterprise. Though I do have an... embarrasingly large soft spot for Voyager)

But back to the console, I think I might give the side-y struts one more crack with slightly thinner models before I scrap them completely. Right now I'm just waiting for the paint on the base and tv to dry. Should be finished sooner than I thought at this rate.

Mini update...

Got the side struts and tv completed, but now I just need some metally grey paint to finish off some fiddly bits before i can actually put it all together.
(Reasonably) Better pics to come soon!
