I've bin wanting to make this prop when the episode came out, (I forget the title, anyone know). I recently seen someone hade made one on the RPF site & now I want to EXTERMINATE, oops, sorry, that just popped out. I want to build the prop even more.

I need reference pic's, blueprints, any information THE DALEK RACE CAN ABSORB! Sorry, he slipped out again.

I got these pic's from the RPF.

Here is the production art from the BBC website:

When it comes to building the gunstick itself, I would recommend signing up for the Project Dalek Forum and downloading their NSD blueprints, which will give you all the measurements you need for the gunstick. You could then use the production artwork for the "trigger" part, which isn't covered on the PDF plans.

Hopefully some of this is helpful.
Kind regards, The14thDr :D

Oops, I gathered a bunch of stuff for this not long ago and then decided I won't make it - far too many things on my list as it is! - so got rid of it all!

But I did take some pictures of the prop when it was on display (albeit strapped to the table!) at the Doctor Who Festival in November 2015. I'll take a look, as I did try to take size reference, and post it here.

I found someone, I think, selling 3d printed gunstick parts. The price was too high for me. http://www.shapeways.com/product/H9ECBR6YS/dalek-gun-stick-tip-of-barrel-dg001

I do have an account on Project Dalek Form. I couldn't find any blueprints but I did find a few pic's of someone's replica. http://www.projectdalek.com/index.php?/gallery/image/9701-gun-from-the-witchs-familiar/&browse=1

still need measurements, or if anyone can think of what pluming parts, PVC of course, may be useful to substitute parts for the gun.

I know this is the plans for a full Dalek, but it has the gun build & I thought it might help.
check this site out, you may find what your after.

I hope that guy is licensed to sell those! If the BBC gets wind if it, their legal team will be all over him like stink on ssssomeone that's been sprayed by a skunk. :-X

I do have an account on Project Dalek Form. I couldn't find any blueprints but I did find a few pic's of someone's replica.

I had an account there, but failed to log in within a six-month period so my account was deleted. But when I was visiting, I thought I saw a section that had PDF blueprints for every model of Dalek (well, not every model, but the major ones: the originals, the Cushing film Daleks, the Genesis Daleks, and I think even the New Series Daleks. The PDF for the New Series Dalek would have the measurements for the gun and the ball. The parts behind the ball would have to be guesstimated based on the other measurements.

Off the top of my head, I'd guess a 1-inch diameter PVC pipe for the gun barrel would be pretty close for a start. Chris' link is the place to go to for Dalek plans. And I just took a quick peek and see they've expanded that list of plans since I was a member. (Might have to try reactivating my account, if it still exists, or re-join if I can.)

EDIT: 5th December - I just got my confirmation from the Project Dalek Forum. I'm a member again and they're going to try and merge my old account with my new one, since the new one is under the same name and e-mail as my old one! So I'll probably see some of you over there at time point. I'll probably be just learning since Daleks aren't my strong point (other than knowing to "Stay away"), but hopefully I'll have a chance at some point to talk to you there as well.

They don't say what type of measurement is used. Is it inches, centimeters, millimeters. It's a bit confusing what it is.

Unless I'm mistaken, all Project Dalek measurements are in centimetres (unless otherwise stated.)

Anyone know if I can use certain or close PVC pipe parts I can adapt for the front & back tips on the gun barrel?

The handle looks like a bathroom sink basin drain pipe.

That could be what it is, elkad: a drain pipe with some couplings on it (and of course, some greebles, possibly also some grooves tooled into the coupling that looks like a reducer where the "pipe" meets with the ball-joint). Those pipe drains come in metal (as it looks on the prop), and in grey, and white, PVC. Needless to say the PVC would be much easier to work with, and with some metal flake silver paint one would never notice the PVC under the paint.

On closer look at this thing, where those wires go into the flange where it meets the ball, that part is starting to look like a kitchen sink drain fitting: the flange where it meets the sink bottom, the larger-diameter where you'd stick the stopper in, then that threaded part where it would meet the drain pipe. It might not be that, but it sure looks like one, possibly for a smaller drain - like you say, a bathroom sink (since that kitchen sink's a larger drain fitting than that 4-inch ball). It's worth checking out. It might even be a drain size that's somewhere between the two - like maybe a bathtub drain - but shape-wise that's what it looks like.

The cables going into the flange, through those washers, might be a good size gauge; they look like either RG-58 HF coax cable (or RG-59, your standard Cable TV cable). The cable diameter isn't all that much different - one could almost say negligible - but the RG-58 is a little thicker (lower frequencies need the larger cable).

I hope some of this babbling has helped a little. (And since you've linked your build in this Reference thread, maybe like with your Keys of Marinus build and Reference threads, you could put a link to this thread in your next Witch's Familiar Dalek Gunstick build Update so it's easier for members to move between the two, and easier to find all of your great reference images.)

Couple questions. How many cable connections are there, & how do I make the gun latches on a round surface?

Pardon the pun, but that's a loaded question! The concept art is different than the actual prop (again a case of the "as intended" vs. the "as built"). Looking at the actual prop, it looks like the connecting cables (the smaller possible RG-59 cable-TV coax), or "Lo Cable Connections" as you've labeled them, there seems to be one per "gun latch". As for the larger, thicker cable (can't remember the gauge of that one - maybe Chris can help out with that) which you've labeled "Hi Cable Connections", I'm not sure where that one connects to at the latch portion. We don't have any images showing the gun from the other side, and all we can see is that large connector, the thick cable, and it snaking its way around towards the side of the gun that we can't see.

As for making the gun latches for the curved surface, one way I would try would be to build up the latch using sheet styrene (model plastic that's sold in sheets of varying sizes and thicknesses) to get the overall shape of the latch. Then I could take a wooden ball of the same diameter as that of the gun ball where the latches are going, wrap some sandpaper around the wooden ball, and carefully sand the mating surfaces of the latches so they match the curve - test fitting against the prop replica periodically to make sure you don't over-sand, or under-sand for that matter. Then once the latches' mating surfaces fit nicely you can either affix the latches to the gun ball, or fine sand them if you need a smoother mating of surfaces.

I hope some of this is helpful, and I'm sure others will have more ideas for building the gun latches so you can choose the one that works best for you.
