Definitely coming along well.  Can't wait to see it done!  :D
I think I remember you saying something about putting this in a study?
If so, then have the console be accessible, and your study can double as your TARDIS' library/secondary control room!

Yesterday I had some time available, so I thought I'd get back in the workshop and get this long-stalled project back on the road. However the universe had other ideas...

The next step of the project is to get the underside of the console clad, and attach it to the plinth. So I cut a hexagonal plate to go over the top of the plinth.
underside1.jpg
The silver on the underside of the console here is because the wide hexagon is reused from the old dalek console I built for my fan film - now dismantled.

No sooner had I finished the hexagon, than my observant junior timelord appeared, telling me the grass was wet outside alongside the driveway. We've had no rain for weeks, so we both agreed that this was very strange. On further investigation, we found that there was water trickling out of the ground and down the sloping driveway. And sure enough the grass alongside the fence is squishy. And one of the fence posts is hissing. Hmm. I called the water board, but they say their responsibility ends at the meter at the street. I fetch the shovel. Pretty soon I'm shoveling wet mud out of a small pond. I fetch the wet and dry vacuum, after which I can see what I'm doing. Eventually I find a 2" blue water pipe with two joints in it, about six inches apart, and one of them is spraying water. I called in the neighbour to help me find the water shut-off, but that one doesn't stop it. Eventually we turn on the taps at the other end, and I let the downstream pipe drain into the ditch, then shove the ends together and tighten them before the pressure builds up too much. Fortunately the fitment had simply not been done up properly and had stripped about one turn from the thread, so I was able to tighten it properly. Here it is afterwards.

I'm guessing someone broke the water pipe when they dug the hole for the fence posts, and repaired it, but they probably couldn't shut the water off either, so perhaps did the best they could under the rising water. I've no clue why it's lasted this long (at least five years) and now suddenly decided to leak. Who knows?
Anyway, hopefully I'll have something better to show when I next get back in the workshop. :)

Seconded :)

A small update.

I cut yet another hexagon to fit inside the plinth on the underside of the lid. This is purely to position the walls correctly so that I could screw vertically down into the ends of the walls to hold it all together (predrilling first to avoid splitting the wood).

And here it is in place.

This holds the whole plinth together firmly, so I can remove the string that was holding it.

It now makes me think of Camberwick Green for some reason.... :)

Looking good! So glad to see you back on this project :)

Definitely alot better than me!
Anyways, are you planning to add sound effects to this one as well?
Maybe even put a tv in the room and have a button on the console turn it on/off (LOL)

Oh yes, I certainly hope to add lights and sounds, but need to finish the structure first...

It would lack accuracy but with the harmoney remote you could actually place ones cable box, dvd player, etc in the console.
