This update is minor but also major. I scrapped the work on this one. Boo! However, this means the replacement will be 1:4. I have access to free laser cutting and can supply thinner materials than before.

Good luck!

I flip and flop like an American president! It's back to 1:5, but with new mini tilt arbor saw in hand, tests are being carried out to cut all the complex angles. I should have new laser cut parts in a few days. I'm motivated now.

Oh, for frack's sake! I can't go ten minutes throughout the day without having to look at or hear something about this orange-faced, pumpkin-headed pudding-brain, or the "other thing" he ran against! (And no; I didn't vote for either one of them. I was hoping for a 3rd Party upset, which didn't happen, so my vote ended up going nowhere useful.)

Can we PLEASE leave TARDIS Builders as a safe haven where no one has to deal with such things?

Paraphrasing from Platform One's policy, which would be good here: "TARDIS BUILDERS PROHIBITS THE USE OF POLITICS, TELEPORTATION, AND RELIGION."

Excuse me now while I finish dry-heaving.

Oh no! That's a slippery slope right there!
Ban teleportation, and the next thing you know, you're banning dimensional transcendentalism, and after that? Ban time travel?! Madness, I tells ya!   :P

Okay! You can take that up with the Administration of Platform One! They're the one who made that policy! ;)

That said... Keeping with my comments above, allow me to rephrase my paraphrasing of the Platform One policy:

"TARDIS BUILDERS PROHIBITS THE USE OF POLITICS, AND RELIGION."

After all, we all know that we do need some teleportation.

Trouble is, if you ban religion, you'll then have to ban the Tooth Fairy, Father Christmas, The Easter Bunny & all the other fantasy fairy tales I grew up with...

I'm not going there. Let's just say...

Women-3sides.jpg

You've all see Sides 1 and 2 of me, and right now with all of the felgercarb flying around in my government-cum-dictatorship, politics brings out Side #3.

Let's leave it at that, shall we?

P. S. Gene, I know we don't normally rush people's builds, but I think we're due for an Update!

With any luck, test cuts are happening this afternoon! As progress is being made, I will start sharing the templates. It has been a complex design task to make everything workable - and it's still ongoing! This build is not for the faint of heart.

The control panels are assembled from a ridiculous number of laser-cut and saw-cut pieces, but it's not as simple as cut and bond. Some pieces must first be bonded with the resulting composite getting angled cuts on the saw. Then there's more bonding after that! It's a process that requires order. You can't just wing it.

Laser cutting of .75 mm acrylic is a semi-success. To keep the sheet from curling means you can't go too hot, but too cool means not cutting through. This poses the risk of snapping and makes for extra filing work. The next test will go a little hotter.

The other issue is the quality of the free laser. It's no Ponoko, but it will do. The accuracy is good except for problems cornering. There's a little wobble introduced, and the corners get more exposure to the laser. This thickens the cut at the corners. I have a workaround to try, though: Make two passes so that there is never any lingering on the corners or sudden changes in direction. I'm stuck with the free laser for super thin sheets but might have to go with a pay service for extremely critical parts. The rest will get a little filing.

Man this takes me back to my 1/7th build. Really cool. Love watching your build come along.
why doesn't the Guide mention them? - Oh, it's not very accurate.
Oh? - I'm researching the new edition.

That last test piece is going to end up being styrene instead of acrylic. At only .75mm thick, it's less work to cut it myself instead of filing. It will end up laminating the top of a thicker piece of acrylic and lots of bits.
