And that's a great image of those robots from "Out of the Unknown", Tony. Thank you much for posting it (and remembering they were used in another production). I don't think we ever got "Out of the Unknown" in the States. If we did, I missed it.

The Mind Robber re-used these robots (and the control panels previously noted by Nate - though not identical - look to be remarkable similar in size and style to this from "Out of the Unknown" as well)!

Those control panels - or similar ones - are also in the TARDIS in Abominable Snowmen part one, along with a very strange scanner with a circular 'porthole' affair framing the screen.  Sadly I don't have the telesnaps for it, can anyone oblige? 

A real shame that OOTU episode, The Prophet, is missing.  A cracking Asimov tale, and those robots burst into song; a wonderful Delia Derbyshire composition called 'Ziwzhi Ziwzhi Ooo Ooo Ooo'!

After a quick online search, here's the unusual scanner and control panels from The Abominable Snowmen.

One of my favorite Troughton stories actually.

Two telesnap shots from 'The Wheel in Space' Part One show the Box on the console, and the roundel cover.

Another contributing factor to that panel being damaged more than the others is that it was the main access point for the time rotor so this panel was removed more often

This interesting instrument, the source of the Explosion maybe?


The Explosion looks like the box wasn't there on the console during the actual burst. And that roundel cover has come from nowhere. Maybe this was filmed separately to avoid injury to the actors? Or during a different time in the shooting schedule when the set was redressed?

*edit ~ just realized it is on a different panel. I looked at the lights on the panel to the right of the explosion, and they were sort of in the same orientation *But I just noticed the instrumentation is different.

A little while back Nate/Warmcanofcoke posted a picture from Spearhead from Space showing the domed gadget (minus its perspex cover) which had also appeared in Troughton's Tardis Power Room and before that in "The Space Museum".

I said at the time that this unit had appeared in a film. Well, I've found the film and it is 1965's "The Curse of the Fly".

And, if you look carefully at the background, you'll also see the Rel Counter from "The Dalek Invasion of Earth: 2150AD"!



(Which also appeared in "The War Machines" by the way!)
