Well, since this topic has been split, we can still discuss the B&W aspects of the upcoming "Power Of The Daleks" story in this thread.

I saw an advert on BBC America last Saturday for "Power Of The Daleks" while watching Ep 1 of 'Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency' (my head is still spinning from that one), but the advert for "Power" said "New series premier beginning November 12th...". So now I'm wondering; are they going to air it in episodic format and use that to fill in the Saturday night slot until the Christmas Special? (Airing one episode per week would take it to 17th December, with the following Saturday being the 24: Christmas Eve, and the perfect time to air the Christmas Special.)

Or are they going to break it up into larger chunks - say airing two episodes at a time to fill what's normally an hour-long time slot? (That would make the "new series" last for three weeks, with "Power" being a 6-parter.) Doing it that way would leave four weeks left before the Christmas weekend and the Special... unless they've got something else planned for that slot.

Does anyone have any idea or info on how "Power" will be aired?

Well I'd be happy if they aired it in one or two episode chunks...

That would mean I've more chance of The Girlfriend poking up with me watching it whilst i'm in the states... ;)

Oh dear.
Is this REALLY the horrendous DVD cover artwork? Not good...

It's by colin Howard, he did alot of the pre 96 vhs covers and had zero involvment with the animation.  bit of an odd choice from a graphic design point of view it is reversable to give a matching roundled cover if required

There's a roundel version that matches the other classic releases :)

There's something... off about the neck-rings and dome of that middle Dalek, oh and those faces? I suppose they resemble the actors.

Seven short slats above he gun and arm boxes- tish, tish. Someone's been copying the movie Daleks!

You are right about the gun and arm boxes being slightly off, but hopefully the actual animated versions are correct --

As for the faces of the actors, a little retouch was all that was needed to make the cover shine.

Oslm: At least Ben and Polly now look... well, like Ben and Polly.

It almost seems like they're using generic, off-the-shelf, 3D models for the Daleks and Tardis (because that's easier than drawing them), then spending time/effort on "wow, look at this" alien backgrounds... and the actual actors are an afterthought?

It's hard to count the actual short slats on this (if it is one of the animation cells), but after lightening it up a little it looks like, at least in this frame, there are only 6. (Not sure how many there are supposed to be... never counted those before.)
DWnewsPOTD.jpg
I tried to lighten the image a little more because that middle Dalek is almost head-on and would be better to count the short slats, but lightening it more than this just washes out the left side (the Dalek's right side, left side of the image), and all resolution on that middle Dalek's short slats is lost in that area. Taking a wild guess based on the spacing of the short slats that I could count, and going by the Dalek on the left, it almost looks like that middle Dalek could also have 6 short slats. The Dalek on the right is head-on and would be perfect for counting those short slats, but that one washes out even more than the center Dalek when lightening the image more. (Maybe someone with a better photo editor can lighten the original image that Steve posted above and keep good enough resolution of that Dalek on the right to count the short slats.)

Now I'll have to pay attention and see how many short slats there are on the Daleks in the surviving episodes when the story airs. (It's always difficult to judge the DVD cover art when comparing it to the actual animation, especially with such little footage of the animated episodes "teased" to us. And by the way, oslm, outstanding job tweaking those faces to make them look more like they should!)

Well, at least now we know why Polly looks sad in that cover art image; she saw what everyone was going to look like on that cover when someone set the design down in front of a mirror, and her image became sad. :)
