There was a photo of the front added to the forum recently, so I figured we should have the Blueprint for it posted here for reference.
This blueprint was found on Flickr about 5 years ago. The Original Poster Jacqui said "My husband found this at work" so presumably it was in the town hall records somewhere.

As you can see the second window ended up being a large sign over the telephone door.
The Photos of the real boxes are around 1930, while the drawing is marked as 1953.
So maybe the design changed a little over time?
For example the redundant signs were changed to a window.

Those are some very nice detailed drawings, starcross! I find it interesting how they say "Obscure Glass/Glazing" for the windows. It makes me wonder what they used for the "obscure glass" (pebbled? hammered? frosted? some other diffusing pattern?). It's hard to tell from the photos of the box what kind they used, but you can see there is some diffusing glass in the windows.

I wonder if it's the same "crackle" glass that appears to be used in the Manchester boxes: http://tardisbuilders.com/index.php?topic=7067.msg89615#msg89615 (Yeah, I know this link says "Sheffield", but the post it links to shows one of the Manchester boxes.)

Is this box in the UK?  If so, why are the dimensions in feet and inches?
When the plans state 1" x 4" I wonder if it's a true 1" x 4" or the modern 3/4" x 3-1/2"?

Everything older than 1970 is likely to be imperial measurements.
Metric took a long time to catch on, people liked thinking in Base 12 or worse for some reason.
Wikipedia has an article about how long it took and what changed along the way.

They are, In the olden days they had the luxury of having wood made to the exact dimensions.
Take the typical 2"x4", in the past (1950s or earlier) that was the exact size.
In the modern era they rough cut to that size, then plane it smooth.
Which is why you lose a few 1/16ths of an inch when you actually try to build with it.


With these plans and a bit of time, you could build at the very least a decent 3D model.
It's all very nicely laid out, although more photographic references would be better.   

It's a great design and it seems clear that the Met boxes were adapted from this so it gives some clues to the timber Met box design. Another difference between the plans and the pictures is that the floor appears to be of 'stepped concrete' in the real thing - I mean that the timber box, as it were, fits around a raised concrete floor.

Great images of that box, ironageman! It shows those windows nicely. It looks like those panes for the "obscure glass" were hammered glass. (That should clear up that part of the "obscure glass" mystery.)

I have been working on this plan with the Photoshop scale measuring tool. Setting the scale from the plan view measurements of 4' 6" and converting it to mm. I then took a complete set of measurements and used them to produce a drawing to see if the tool is accurate. It seems it is, though the door looks like it has gone a bit wrong. Probably user error.
