Looking at Loose Cannon's reconstruction of The Celestial Toymaker, there are some good reference photos of the other white Tardis mock-ups that featured in the story. We already know that the 'Police Box Porch' was used, but looking at these I'm now convinced that the Brachacki refit was a hybrid of at least two props; the original prop and sections of these white props. The white mock-ups have the frosted 'Police Box' signage and the windows have the all-pebbled glass without the drip sills, exactly as we see in the refit version...

Great minds think alike! Though, it's always confused me why - when they had the duplicate doors still available - that they didn't use these for "The War Machines" refit. In fact, why refit it at all?

Good question Tony! Perhaps the duplicate doors were lost by the time of The War Machines.
I think they were last seen in Toymaker, whereas at least one of the white mock-ups survived, to be used in The Mind Robber...

Maybe the refit could have been triggered by the original prop being badly damaged somehow while on location for The War Machines....
I seem to remember Purpleblancmange mentioning this on his blog many moons ago.
It's a pity there's no surviving documentation or photos to support this though...

Do we know how many of the white 'mock-ups were built? I assume (but don't know) that there were three and that, later, two were combined for "The Mind Robber".

The original 'duplicate doors' seemed to have survived all the way to "The Tenth planet" and are shown as being used of the set plan for episode four. http://tardisbuilders.com/index.php?topic=6378.msg80200#msg80200

Interesting.
If the tele-snaps/reconstruction images are accurate then we definitely see at least two white Tardises in the same shot. Angles and blocking make it hard to tell if these are 'full' of just two sides (well, a front and a side actually). The corner posts are clearly shorter than the Brachaki, and I don't see roofs (or lamps) but I do see the three steps above the doors and the corner post moulding which are both absent on the Mind Robber version. Perhaps these were now being used on the refit? The Mind Robber also appears to only be two sides like the Toymaker ones.
If there actually were three white Tardises then, indeed, that would give enough parts for the refit (which should now be considered a rebuild) and also leave the parts for the Mind Robber, but why the Mind Robber Tardis should have plain posts and no steps is still puzzling.

OOPS, sorry Tony you're right there!
Looking at the script from the 10th Planet ep4, it does indicate there was a close-up shot of the Doctor opening the doors, which was annoyingly not "telesnapped"...

"20.  EXTERIOR THE TARDIS

(Outside, the Doctor battles through the snow, followed some distance behind by Ben and Polly.  The Doctor stops in front of the TARDIS and opens the outer doors.  He enters, and the doors shut just as Ben and Polly arrive.)

    POLLY:  Wait for us!
    BEN:  Open the door!
    POLLY:  Hey, let us in!
BEN:  You can't leave us here, of all places!  Open up!
    POLLY:  Doctor!

21.  INTERIOR THE TARDIS

(In the control room, the Doctor is clearly weakening.  He leans against the console and operates the door control; Ben and Polly burst in to see him stagger past the console and lean forward.  The TARDIS controls are now working themselves; the door closes and the central column begins moving up and down.  The Doctor's body is wracked by some huge inner turmoil; he struggles to stay on his feet, but the effort is too much for him.  He collapses.)

    POLLY:  Doctor!  Quick, help him!
    BEN:  No, leave him!

(Ben points at the unconscious Doctor.  The old man is lying on his back, totally still, his face expressionless.  As they watch, a strange glow comes over the Doctor's face; the glow brightens to a brilliant white, then fades.  And the face which is left behind is that of a total stranger...)

The only image was of this...

Sounds like they wanted to repeat what they did with Barbara in the first story, perhaps :)

Further evidence that leads to the rear of the original Brachacki prop also being replaced with one of the Toymaker mock-ups...
Here's the rear of the prop from The Dalek Invasion Of Earth. Window frames complete with drip sills and no door knobs on the outward opening doors, matching Police Box sign lintel...
DIOE.jpg

Then the Toymaker mock-up. Complete with no drip sills, full pebbled glass, door knobs, frosted POLICE BOX sign lintel...
Celestial Toymaker 1.jpg

Now the rear of the prop from 'The Abominable Snowman'. Drip sills put on crudely with wood filler, all pebbled glass, two door knobs and frosted POLICE BOX sign lintel...

Amazing! I honestly can't recall anyone pointing out those two door-knobs before now. You'd think they'd get noticed. Is it simply because we have missing stories and images like this are only now coming to light?
So is this the infamous damage caused by all that 'rubble' that leads to the replacement doors? Looks like we'll have to re-write the chronology of the Brachacki Tardis next!

Is one window actually missing in the DIoE image?  :o

It could very well be, Marc. When I lightened and sharpened the image a bit...

DIOE.jpg
...you can just see the hinge on that other window is visible where it connects to the window frame, meaning that it's (from this perspective) the back window that we're seeing tilted in. If it was that window on the side tilted in, then we wouldn't be able to see that hinge attachment to the window frame because it would be on the far side of the frame, and out of our line of sight.

(I've got the red arrow pointing to that. I tried a brighter arrow, but it interfered with the visuals; all your eyes focused on was that bright arrow. The red one is bright enough to point to the connection point, and still dim enough to let your eye see that connection.)

Oh well spotted! (great picture as well)

Purely speculation, but i'd guess the doors were swapped over as part of the Smugglers refit?

Fantastic Abominable Snowman picture as well, you can the tops of the corner posts are exposed from when they were cut down (the same way the post tops on the original 2005 box were open as well :D

Gives you a good idea of how the posts were originally built :)

I'm guessing you may be right about the window being missing; however its worth noting that if they used hinges and braces like I used on my box the braces can be lifted up over the window frame window can be simply left resting inside the box...

I don't think the doors were damaged, as this photo from The web Planet seems to confirm...

In the Police Box Porch In Toymaker thread, TB member Frostedwindows quotes this stage direction from The Hall Of Dolls:

"Steven notices four cupboards along one wall, all the same shape as the TARDIS but painted white.  Only three of them will open; the fourth may be the real TARDIS in disguise."

It all adds up.  Four sets of double doors; two sets were repainted and used in the War Machines rebuild, the others stayed in storage until they became the two visible sides of the white Mind Robber TARDIS.  And now we know why those clover leaf retainers were needed on the rebuilt front; rather than being cut down due to damage (the favourite theory until now), the replacement doors were made to open outwards so were shorter than the originals from the off.  Case solved I'd say!
