That is a great looking console kit, and things seem to be going together smoothly. (But is that my brain you were using to weight the column cover pieces together? I wondered where it had gotten to.)

Hahaha! I know you can be a bit dim at times Dino  ;D but, I think Deck5 must be a fan of "The Brain of Morbius"!

Ah, Tony! Just when I thought things were as miserable as they could possibly get over here (the wife, The Evil One, and Stormageddon all have horrid head colds and my back is acting up again), you manage to put a smile on my face and a few rays of sun into my world!

THANK YOU! I needed that laugh!

A dry-fit of the panels.  Panel 6 overlaps panel 1 slightly, but I'll remedy that later rather than right now.

The paint is dollar-store acrylics.  I've mixed a bit of leaf green in with antique white.

I've given the rotor base a coat of a very dark gray metallic paint, and attached the basket with a screw as a temporary handle.

While the chassis dries -- this is the rotor tube, masked off except for the very top edge.  I hit this with spray glue,

and inverted it onto the cover plastic...

And after cutting away the excess with scissors, a nice clean result:

Got to be honest, I never got on with the cylinder lid method supplied in the kit, so I made my own with a spare length of acrylic tube I had leftover from my Cybergun build a couple of years back, and bought a 2mm thick acrylic disc of the same diameter off of ebay for about £2. Stuck the two together and it looks quite solid.

Glad it worked out OK for you though :)

I couldn't have managed a clean result with the method in the instructions -- hence the spray glue.  Your way would make a more solid cover, though.

The first parts go on, and some of the paint.  I'm using mostly dollar-store acrylics, except for the silver paint.  Toothpicks and dollar-store paintbrushes for the painting.  The glue is Mod Podge Brushstroke Matte, which is an unusual choice, but works well here -- it has some body, cleans up with water, and can be pulled apart if necessary.

Progress update.  The rotor base is now dark gray in the center, and dull aluminum all around.

Completed the rotor internals.

Added a few more parts:

Wow! Just... WOW!

(And maybe a touch of Envy(small).jpg thrown in!)

Thought I'd just chuck this in, as you seem to be at an appropriate stage! I found the 'ping pong' lights a bit fiddly and concurrently thought 'wouldn't it be nice to have lights on the console'. It transpires that 5mm LEDs, with a painted cowl and a metal washer fitted around it makes a pretty good likeness. I haven't finished wiring it yet, bu thought I'd throw it in as an idea.

That's very nice!  I think if I went that far, I'd want the rotor to go up and down, too.

Thank you  :) I did consider that, but felt it was probably beyond my ability! I am including some inward facing LED's pointing at the time rotor from under the controls. In retrospect I wished I had bought white, opaque LEDs, but there we go...
