This is another chair from the TARDIS, this one is from the sleeping quarters as seen in The Edge of Destruction.

(sorry not a great picture of the chair, it's the chrome one at the back)

After hunting around a bit I think it was made by the 1950's Swedish designers Dahlens Dalum

This one has the right back but a different base.

I really like the chair and I've been checking ebay  - I nearly found one here item number: 270353420577  The right design but with a different back

The same chair was seen in the Silver Carrier spaceship in The Wheel in Space , in fact two of them. If I didn't believe in the ability to travel in time and space, this might have worried me.

A preference for modernist Swedish design must have been universewide!

TG,
I did check that out, boy very close, only if the back rest had metal spindles running vertically that be the ticket...  You might be able to get a metal fabricator to spot weld on some metal spindles if it's a 'must have' sort of thing... :)  Nice find though!

They also appear in Power of the Daleks in Hensell's Office, although I can't find the correct telesnap at the moment (perhaps I am mistaken).

I found a 3D version here. It also comes with a backrest.

Those (Eames wire shell chairs) and the Swedish chair are two distinctly different items. This reminds me that I need to get started on the Dr Who mid-century modern furniture and fixtures site. Dr Who might not have rivaled Space:1999 in sheer numbers of items at one time, but over the decades there have been so many great items used (and that we can collect).

What are the differences? :)

Dahlens Dalum Swedish Chrome Chairs
Four of them for sale at Chairish.com in the US. Very expensive but stylish and mid-century modern Who

Mark

Hi TG, long time no see.

Have you tries to get some dimensions of the chair from the seller?

I figured that these may help with your Service Robot build as both the robot and chair are very close to each other.

They sell them near me  :D60sChair.jpg

DW_TARDIS_bedroom_chair.jpg

I found one in the UK!
A Dahlens Dalum Egg chair, Swedish mid-century design as seen in the sleeping quarters of the TARDIS (in The Edge of Destruction) and The Silver Carrier (in The Wheel in Space)
(Marc - this is not an Eames chair :)
It is showing its age a bit (bit wobbly) and had a bit of work done (welding) but it is the futuristic space-age chair I've always desired - now placed in my own sleeping quarters - hopefully it will make my part-built Servo Robot feel at home.

Yes. Not sure why I didn't see the differences before.  I guess I didn't see them together or something :)

A few more reference screen grabs from Ep.1 of The Edge of Destruction, in the sleeping quarters

EOD_Susan_wirechair_TG.jpg

And a close-up from Ep.1 of The Wheel in Space, in the control room of the Silver Carrier
The chair has a seat belt! (never saw those on the Enterprise)

and finally my CG model of the chair - made some time ago
