That is truly an amazing Old Girl you've built for your grandson, and I agree that he's probably very popular right about now, stepping out of a TARDIS to catch that primitive mode of transport. (He's one lucky kid!)

I love the images with the snow on her, and the pine wreath and garland. Postcard Perfect! (And is that one of my St. John Ambulance logos on the door? If it is, I love it when I see them going to good use! )

Thanks guys! I found a sidewalk light set at Home Depot that seemed to be a great match. I bought a single lamp, cut off the cord that feeds to the other lights. I inserted a regular lamp bulb holder (I scavenged it from an old lamp that used to sit on the end table!  )  and a energy saving bulb. (Bulb is narrower than a regular bulb, I also used bright white and it really lights up at night!) Painted the lamp frame and screws. I drilled a hole in a mason jar lid and inserted the holder and screwed bulb in. I attached to the inside by inserting bulb up into lamp and screwed the mason jar lid to the bottom of the small lamp mount at the top. I added an indoor light by doing the same thing and hung it upside down. My grandson has a lamp in his room that spins and displays all sorts of different colors. I put it inside during Christmas and it really looked cool at night with all the swirling colors! I did print the St Johns logo from this site! I laminated the logo and glued it to the door. I went around edges with paint to ensure seal and that it would stick. Need to get a phone sign for the small door. It is just printed paper behind plexiglass. I did put a notebook and pen inside the small phone box so people that stop for photos can sign their name and where they are from! I eventually want to find a phone to put in there, but for now it works for the notebook!

I can't quite tell how long the driveway is, but you have an excellent excuse to keep your eye open for some Army surplus field phones or some kind of intercom so you could run a wire to the house and have an actual call box that the little man could stay in touch over while waiting for the bus.  (I've been meaning to do this, but I don't have nearly as good an excuse for it.) 

A phone would be an awesome addition! I'm on the hunt! Driveway is about 80 feet. I like the intercom idea! I have to bury an electric line anyway, so I might just add the intercom wiring also.

Those phones use a pretty basic wire.  Military wire is a steel core with aluminum around it (something like 5 strands of steel and 7 of aluminum for each of the pair).  Sound quality isn't as good but it is cheaper and sturdier than speaker wire.  You could use basic old fashioned copper speaker wire too (gold would be a bit much for an intercom).  We've buried wire when we happened to be supporting an engineer unit that was already running a trench, but a lot of the time you just run it on the ground and trust that it is below the lawnmower blades (or that no artillery will be going off on top of it). 

Indeed, in WWI days, that's how the Germans conducted patrols, before they had man portable radios:  A patrol would head out with a field phone, trailing wire, and when they got to the end of the wire, that was the end of the patrol.  Or so I've been told.  I can't recall if they backtracked or just cut loose the wire and had the base reel it back in.  One way seems prone to getting ambushed and the other seems like a good way to show people where your base is.  But I guess it beats messenger pigeons.
