So I was wondering if this lever (there were 2 on the console which is what makes me think it might have been a found part) is a found part, or custom made, and if it is a found part, what is it's name? Thanks to anyone who can help! Also, the image used is not mine, I can't remember what post I got it from, but I just wanted to say it wasn't mine so people wouldn't say I stole it XD

Sorry what are we talking about exactly? Are we talking about the brown handled black lever?

Did you take a read of the components thread for this console? Did we discuss it there? I'm sure galaticprobe will pop in to comment about whether we did or not - he's usually quite good at remembering that stuff.

Otherwise, from my first glance, I'd guess that its a boat motor control lever of sorts.

The unit with two handles (one brown, one ivory) and the wheel (prominent in "End of the World") is a found item.  It is some sort of throttle and trim wheel assembly from an aircraft and there are two sets on the console, on opposite ribs.  We've come close to IDing the exact model in some of these 2005 console threads but never totally cracked it.   The close ones found on Ebay were expensive though.   For my console, I made replicas out of perspex, a frisbee, an aerosol lid and some od metal gears and it's not a million miles off so you don't have to save your pennies necessarily.

I stand corrected - this is now an ID'd part - nice going Primrodo  :)      The image name gives us all we need to track them down and to find in-situ pics like this:

AMAZING! So, does the part have a name, or is it specific to what planes it was used in?

This is a throttle and trim wheel (and the brown cylinder on the bendy handle also has a "Push to talk" button in its center - probably activated with the thumb). It's from a Percival "Piston" Provost airplane, and if you Google "Percival Piston Provost Throttle" or "Percival Piston Provost Trim Wheel" (or any combination thereof - sometimes just "Piston Provost~") you may find a few photos.

Every so often one comes up for sale, whether on eBay of another on-line sales site. But don't get your hopes up just yet unless you have very deep pockets. The last one I saw for sale was quite a few years ago (before 2010) - and it was only one - had an asking price of 250 GBP (that's $353.35 US at today's current exchange rate). And this console needs two of them.

So, with this item being very scarce (unless you know someone that works in a plane scrap yard and will let you rummage through things until you come across two of them), I would suggest reading through these Build Diaries to see how several of our members built their own from scratch, and see which methods work for you (maybe even a mix of versions would work):

Not listed in any particular order other than that in which I found them. You can also check out some of the threads in here http://tardisbuilders.com/index.php?board=58.0 for some great reference images, and (while I can't find it now because I'm looking for it), there is a thread where this control was discussed and IDed. (If I come across it I'll post the link, but it never hurts to just poke around; you never know what you might find.)

I hope this was as helpful as davidnagel's vote of confidence in me. (Thanks, David! :D)

Perfect as always!

And I'm really pleased this has been IDed finally. As shameful as this sounds, I didn't actually realise there were two on the console but come to think of it, I believe Jack helps Sarah or Martha with the other one in "The Stolen Earth".

Don't let it get to you. There are still things about this - and other - consoles I'm still finding out!

...but come to think of it, I believe Jack helps Sarah or Martha with the other one in "The Stolen Earth".

I think it was Martha, as Jack was on that side (looking like he was having more fun working the pump than anything else!). Sarah was across the console working her lever on that side. But to put things into perspective for everyone:

PistonProvostLever.JPG
Here's an image of the old girl in her glory days, during the Eccleston run (and if you open the image in a new window you should get the magnifying lens symbol on your cursor so you can see it full size for better details). The yellow arrow on the left is pointing to one of the controls. This is the one that Sarah Jane used in "Journey's End". It's also the wheel that both the 9th and 10th Doctors used as the Helmic Regulator to move the TARDIS through time: the 9th Doctor very prominently in "The End of the World" as he brought Rose bit by bit to the year 5 billion; the 10th Doctor used it in the same capacity in "Runaway Bride" as he brought the TARDIS back to the formation of the Earth, and had Donna watching through the doors as he spun the wheel, advancing time to speed through the Earth's formation, and learn that it was the Racnoss webstar that brought the rock chunks together to form the planet.

The red arrow on the right points to the control on the other side of the console: the one that Martha used in "Journey's End". This is also the control the 10th Doctor used (with help from some cord) to control the TARDIS from the doorway as he chased down the robot-Santa-driven taxi in "Runaway Bride". This is the same control the 11th Doctor used the sonic screwdriver on (as the TARDIS was crashing after his recent explosive regeneration), to remotely operate it and avoid a nasty collision with the spire atop Big Ben.

So, playing guesswork again, I would say the control with the yellow arrow point to it is the Helmic Regulator, as we know this is the control that moves the TARDIS through time, and that's what the Helmic Regulator does (going back to the Classic Series). The control with the red arrow pointing to it controls the TARDIS' movement through space, since it was operated as such in "Runaway Bride" car-TARDIS chase scene, and in "The Eleventh Hour". (I know there is probably an official name for that control, but I can't think of it at the moment. I'll have to look through my references - and I've got loads of them gathered over the decades - so it may take some time. That is, unless someone else finds the actual (not fan-made) name for it first.)

I hope this sheds a little more light on the console, and the two controls and what they were used for.
