Hey

I was wondering if you are are making a Tardis collapsible and portable, what would be the best way to attach the door? You really can't attach it to one of the 4 posts

Roger.

P.S. I'm new, Hi :)

Hi Roger!    I've had great success with loose-pin hingers.  These are door hinges where you can pull the central pin out and the hinge seperates itn otwo halves.  One half stays on the post, the other on the door.   They can also be extremely useful in holding the rest fo the box together - I've used them on the sides and centre of each of my walls, and on the corner of each signbox (my signboxes are all joined up to create a central ring).   Very handy way to ensure you've always got your pieces located correctly and they can't fall apart.

Thanks Glen, that will be useful. If I ever get around to making one that is :D

I did pin hinges in my build, and attached the pins to chains and then the chains to the corner posts so they wouldn't go missing. Theres a photo on page 6 of my build diary.

Hi all! Like kiwidoc, I've used loose-pin hinges for doors and phone-box. cerniere.jpg

You can't really talk about a collapsible Tardis without mentioning Sillysparrowness and her hilariously informative/entertaining build: http://tardisbuilders.com/index.php?topic=3153.0
She takes you through the whole build (including mistakes), so anything you could want answered is there.

Welcome to the TARDIS Builders Family, Roger! (A little late with that; sorry. :P) Everyone has provided some expert advice so far, so all I can really do is add that there are some helpful links in the http://tardisbuilders.com/index.php?topic=6011.0 post, including one to Bill "the Doctor" Rudloff's (a.k.a. DoctorWho8) excellent plans for the New Series TARDIS (with both metric and imperial measurements) which he painstakingly calculated, and came so close the only way to get closer is to break into the BBC and steal the original (which I would advise against). If you're thinking of one of the Classic Series TARDISes, you'll find info on them in our http://tardisbuilders.com/index.php?board=77.0 Section (more on that in the Helpful Hints post).

There is also a link to the TARDIS Builders Workshop Manual, which an excellent guide for building the pieces of a TARDIS (corner posts, windows, etc.) and putting them together. And again, more on the Manual in the Helpful Hints post, but it was created by another of our members. Between that, Bill's plans, and the advice you'll get here, you should be able to build just about any version of the TARDIS (and there were quite a few between 1963 and now).

And just to add to what Angelus mentioned about sillysparrowness' Build Diary, I think she's got a link to her video in it, but just in case (since I can't remember):

Yes, it runs about 17 minutes, but it's worth every second to watch! That video will be over before you know it, and you'll find yourself watching it again. Hilarious, informative, and all around just a really fun watch.

Welcome once again, and good luck with your build!
