Wow! I know this is about the set, but I can't help noticing that Nyssa (Sarah Sutton) looks so small! Against those walls she's not even three roundels tall (and that's taking into account the spaces between roundels and the bottom roundel and floor), while The Brig's head reaches to the bottom of the 4th roundel from the floor. (Difficult to judge Tegan's height from where she's standing, but we already know Davison is close to The Brig's height.)

Dino.

I can't help but wonder if this is some kind of forced perspective optical illusion.  I can't reason through it, but given that the walls aren't square and Nyssa is standing apart from everyone else, I think this may be a trick of the eye.

Out of interest, and probably a misplaced question, but anyone know what happened to the console after The Five Doctors? I'm correct in believing it was reused for The Two Doctors, yes? So what was it's ultimate fate?

I remember the time rotor being sold at auction at t he 93 Panopticon (by a slightly drunk Mike Ticker) - after that, who knows!

Ugh, I am definitely not a fan of that intermediate console from the early 80s. It's just so damn clunky and ugly looking compared to the original one and the later Five Doctors one.

I've always been the complete opposite! I love how it clashes completely with the rest of 5 's console room in its later life, and under Tom Baker it suited the feel of his TARDIS rather nicely.
That said it did always have a bit of a feel of low-quality to it. No wonder, considering it was first built as a simplified Hartnell console and was then butchered a bit.  It has a certain charm, but isn't the enjoyable piece of workmanship the others are. I've always thought the Hartnell looked a bit clinical for my tastes, and the 5 Doctors had an unforgivable lack of levers which I never got over (not to say that I don't like either of them, I'm nit-picking, I love all of the designs), whereas this had a bit more colour and a bit more of a home-brew feel, you could really tell how The Doctor had personalised it, although that also worked to its disadvantage in that it often looked like a budget TV prop.
And then of course the McGann came a long, and it was perfect for me! And then RTD and Smith Mk1, same story, all 3 really captured my expectations for a TARDIS. Am significantly less fond of the current but ah well, sentimental outburst over :)
Isn't it how ironic that we have to think of solutions out of the box, in order to build our boxes a lot of the time?

I've recently come across some more behind the scenes shots.

I always keep an eye out for these shots because I hope they will provide someone into some insight into how the sets were made.

yes - Tegan does look silly in this shot but If I can direct your attention to the Time Rotor you can just see some coiled wire on the inside - this was probably something to do with the lighting of the Rotor.
why doesn't the Guide mention them? - Oh, it's not very accurate.
Oh? - I'm researching the new edition.

Interesting, like you I love to get a feel for how sets and props are constructed and set up, and these behind the scenes shots are gems! (Out of interest anyone see DWM this month and that brilliant picture of Dalek 7 being dug into the beach? ;))
Slightly off topic for this thread, but I've always wondered - does anyone know if that is actually the season 18 Baker coat Mardwyn is wearing? It looks the same, and the addition of the garish green lining would indicate the original coat, but once someone told me it wasn't, can't remember where or when or who but since then it's been a small question in the back of my mind every time I watch it.

No, it's a Season 18 Tom Baker coat, circa Meglos.

There were two coats for season 18. One had a red lining.

My latest acquisition... A BBC production made set model for the 1980 refurbishment of the Tardis console room. It was constructed based on foam and card copies of the dye line plan (which I also have). The roundel walls immediately behind the console are new, and the existing ones made for 'The Invisible Enemy' were redistributed around the enlarged set. Note the extra wall of roundels outside the main doors. For an item that's 36 years old, and not originally built to last, it's in great condition.

Production items really fascinate me, and this version of the Tardis is the one from my earliest memories, so it's really up my street!

The Facebook link isn't working for me. Perhaps the OP's privacy settings are too strict for nonfriends...

Beautiful pic of that model though :)

Someone there on Twitter suggests season 15 but I would say 19 or 20.

Seasons 15, 16 & 17 had a smaller room with a T piece instead of the 2 column wall and smaller pillars.

You are correct, Marc, as one of your earlier posts on the Season 15 set shows: http://tardisbuilders.com/index.php?topic=3486.0.

The set was clearly smaller in Season 15, and it remained basically unchanged through Season 17. That 2-column roundel wall and the additional "smaller" pillars didn't appear until Season 18. (More visual references: http://tardisbuilders.com/index.php?topic=1105.0.) And from those reference images it looks like the Season 18 modifications remained unchanged until Season 20, specifically getting the revamped appearance the set would have through to the end in "The Five Doctors".
