But that maintenance needs to be done man... You'll be glad when you've done it!
After the winter I'm  thinking of covering my whole TARDIS in rubber paint, then  giving her a coat of really dark blue gloss to make her look a bit more like a real police box. Might even go white sign & windows....

She really does look magnificent! And that really does look like that back corner of my back yard! I keep looking out there, but I don't see your TARDIS. You must have stopped there in the future... or the past. (Do you have a huge maple tree inside the Old Girl? Because she's parked right where my huge maple should be, and I'm thinking you've materialized around my tree. )

I know how you feel about the maintenance and losing the nice weathering she's got. Try giving her a good once-over once the nice weather returns. Things might be fine and only need minor touching up in places. Then you wouldn't have to repaint all of her. You could do that needed maintenance and still keep the weathering and that great color.

This morning, there was just a wonderful light hitting it.  It wasn't strictly sunrise, but there was a peach/orange light hitting her from behind and lighting up the windows.  I kind of wish I'd taken a picture.  I also need one from my garage.  I have windows in the back of the garage and every time I get home, as I'm pulling in, there's a TARDIS, filling up one window.  It is such a thrill.  I've tried taking a picture, but because the garage is dark and the light is from the windows, you can't see outside.  Just the bright white windows.  Maybe one day I'll get around to setting up the DSLR and getting the exposure and F-stop right. 

I promise I'll get around to taking a photo in front of the TARDIS to make this appropriate to a not-costume board, but I had a rough enough day and I'd been procrastinating on getting into this enough that I needed a pick-me-up:

The pants were purposely bought at Goodwill for this look.  The shirt is an everyday shirt that I managed to stain in the vestal region that has a small enough collar to be able to pass for a wing collar.  Vest was for this as well.  It lacks stripes and is more tan than gold.  It's also a women's vest (the buttons are on the wrong side if you look closely).  Tie is a tie I already had.  Ring is from Wal*Mart.  I bought it for a pirate costume and later realized it was an almost perfect 1st Doctor ring.  Coat was picked up for this purpose from a surplus tuxedo store closeout sale.  At first I wasn't happy with it but it has grown on me.  

I've tried growing my hair out but this is a hair length I'm far more comfortable with.  I think it works for a young 1st Doctor anyway.

(Oh, the other problem is, I need to be about 20# lighter for this getup to be comfortable.  The vest and trousers were torture for even the 20 minutes or so I wore these for for this photo.) 

Well, volpone, no flipping necessary! The photo is upright, and from the mirror's perspective that vest/waistcoat is showing the buttons on the correct side (for a man's garment), and you've got the ring on the correct hand as well! So in this photo it appears that you are a very young (130 years old or so?) 1st Doctor looking directly at us. (Romana II stated she was 127, so I think given your attire 130 is a good guess at how the 1st Doctor would have looked at that age.)

And a quick fix for the button issue is something called Velcro! Just get some thin Velcro and put it on the vest so that you can close it with the buttons on top (over the buttonholes) and let the Velcro hold it closed. That will make it look like it's buttoned for a man. The same can be done with hook and eye fasteners, using one under each button.

It's a quick-fix turnaround for making a woman's garment like a vest, cardigan, jacket, etc. look like a man's when it's closed.

Great selfie. (And remember what I always say: A costume is also a prop that is made from fabric.)

HA!  One of those shots that you couldn't plan if you tried (and I was surprised that it showed up with the right orientation).  The coat has a handkerchief pocket, but my hand happens to hide it.  The hip pockets are besom pockets instead of flap, but there's no easy way to cure that.  But I'm rambling.  Other hand hides where a boutonniere would be.  And since I'm lefthanded, the phone in the mirror image looks normal (in the right hand).  The tie hides the buttons on the shirt, so the only telltales that this is a mirror image are the fly on the trousers and the closing button on the jacket.

Like you said: even if you tried. The 1st Doctor's coat didn't have a handkerchief pocket, so your photo was serendipitous in that as well.

Rambling? Not at all: just providing additional details. The pockets? Not really an issue; this is a young 1st Doctor you're showing us, and Time Lord tech aside, I doubt their clothing could last for several hundred years. He probably fished a new coat out of the TARDIS wardrobe later on (since his on-screen coat also had a shawl collar and was double-breasted, with six buttons per side). He lost a few coats on screen as well, yet his replacements were just like the previous one, so there were obviously several in the wardrobe.

Which also puts the ring on the "right" hand as well. (Nicely worked with that mirror!)

My TARDIS needs it's summer re paint & I'm seriously thinking about going for this look myself.

Ha!  Yeah, you are about due, aren't you?  Both from the weather's wear and tear and because it's hard not to tweak and fuss when you've got one.  Because you'd think having a TARDIS would be enough, but it isn't.  So you need to try things with it. 

It will be interesting to see if you decide to do it.  Because your box has such a nice Troughton/Pertwee Base Under Siege/UNIT HQ vibe to it that the blue trim works very nicely.  An interesting thing, for me, granted, I didn't paint the trim the dark blue, but even though actual police boxes used to be a lighter blue with the blue tinted center bottom pane, mine looked odd this way.  But when I did the white trim it was very nice. 

If you do it, do you think you'll gin up an alternate white phone door panel?  You could probably have a pretty effective Hartnell box but you almost need the white panel with blue/black lettering.  Although who knows?  The black background with a white border could look amazing.  After all, apart from the pilot, #1 had blue trim on the phone door and that worked for the most part. 

You are right re: the sign.
I'm actually thinking of making a white on black & a black on white one & fixing them with velcro so they are interchangeable.
(Boarder will stay blue.) Also considering a SJA sign & painting the whole thing a more glossy dark blue.
We'll see....

I've always been bemused by the build posts where the builder is sanding the bugger down to a mirror-like finish.  A good thing about TARDISes is they're supposed to look old and beat-up.  So texture is a good thing.  Before I add another coat, I'll likely sand my corner posts, but only because they have such a pronounced wood grain.  The nice thing about the glossy dark blue is that it calls a lot of attention to all the flaws and imperfections.  I've mulled weathering the new paintjob, but truth be told, the dark glossy finish does a much better job of making her look beat up than any weathering I could do.  And that makes it more likely that I'll do an annual coat of paint on her so she doesn't rot as much as she did since the last refit (I hate meticulously aging the bugger only to have to paint over all my weathering). 

OH!  I remember the other thing I was going to say:  Of course the big question for new builders is "what color blue?"  And I've eventually realized machs nicht.  To pick this blue, I went into Home Depot and found the darkest blue I could find.  I can't remember what I didn't like about it, but I went on to the next darkest.  That one was too black.  It would have made a fine 2005 TARDIS "blue," but it didn't work for what I wanted.  But the third one...  the third blue was very dark but still definitely blue.  It was a little scary when I popped the lid because it had a lavender sheen until it dried.  But I done good.  Behr Midnight Sapphire, IIRC.  Semigloss.
