The Power of the Daleks, Episode 1.
I reckon this is the Mk. 2:

What a brilliantly researched new topic. I had no idea that there were two nearly identical chairs.

Nice to see the photo from Dalek Master Plan as, usefully, it shows the chair against the 3D wall (which has even more helpfully had its castors removed). This should enable a true estimate of this chair's height compared to the known diameters of the roundels.

This photo is also from Power of the Daleks. If a larger version of this is available, it might help you decide whether this is the Mark1 or Mark2. (Incidentally, the cutting out of geometrically-shaped holes in the chair's "stretcher" is usually called "fretwork".)

Cheers, Tony :)

From your photo, I would stick with it being Mk.2 because the side beams at the bottom of the legs seem to be straight with no curves underneath.

Great reference photos. I've modelled this chair a few times over the years and every time I did it because I'd see a photo and think 'wow... I got that part of the chair REALLY wrong!'. Now I find out that there was more than one chair!! Now it all makes sense.

Now I have to make three models. Mk.1, Mk.2 and one for my own that combines them for my console room set.

I'm not looking forward to doing Richard's throne or the two chairs from Mind Robber.... literally no reference material at all...... :o

One thing I've noticed on both the Mk1 and Mk2 is that those gold/brass rosettes that tack the back to the chair change in number. Sometimes there are more on the front (top and sides), and also on the side of the chairs (tacking the backing around the uprights).

So, idealistically, the rosettes tacking the backing to the chair should have this pattern:

 *  * * * * *  *
*  *       *  *
*  *       *  *

(side)      (front)        (side)

Again that's idealistically, since both chairs show the rosettes changing in number. And since I'm speaking "idealistically", if I had the ability to make one of these, (like Rob's "third" he mentions) I would combine the best attributes of the two into one: the ornate uprights of the Mk2, with the tapered armrests and curved leg side cross supports of the Mk1, and also have all of the rosettes in place to hold the backing in place.

3 on the sides? Interesting....

Also sometimes theres 1 on the sides of the seat.

I've combined various screen grabs of the Mk2 chair - does this help? (Drawing not to scale and without chair frame detailing.)

Nice tassels Marc!  ;)

I see you've evened up the side brass 'flowers'. I think that either some of these started to fall off/go missing fairly early on and the reason we're seeing them in different positions (i.e., either apparently missing or not) is due to the screen resolution/lighting.

What you need is a couple of decent hi-res photos and to be able to identify the episodes from which they're taken.

Ooops, didn't mean to do that with the seat-back flowers!
