Forgive me Barry, but can you see through car air filters? In various screen shots and photos, the grille you're talking about is allowing light through from the central column...

Forgive this late reply, but this topic has moved at lightning speed since yesterday!

Tony, yes; you can see light through a car air filter, provided the filter is clean (and in these cases I'm guessing they would be, and not filters with several thousand miles on them). It's one way I would check to see when my car's filter needed replacing: hold it up to the sky (or use a torch/flashlight). If light came through it, I could still get a few more miles out of it. When the filter was new, light would come through it like a lampshade (though my car took filters that were made with white folds rather than red, but even a red-fold filter, if it was clean, would allow light to pass through it). Generally, as a rule when dealing with any filter, if air can pass through it, then so can light.

Now if one of those filters had a foil in the folds, like those show cars sometimes do, then you'll only get light coming through around the edges where the foil leaves just enough room to let the air flow through it so the engine can run and show off its powerful revs.

I am suggesting that panel 6 started out with a similar grille to that on panel 2. This picture that markofrani identified as coming from 'The Daleks' shows this clearly.
panel_6_01.jpg
The grille here is much wider than it's later replacement. It lines up with the ends of the panel under the small levers. That would make it 8.5" long - the same as the grille on panel 2. It also sits proud of the surface like the grille on panel 2.
However, my interest is in concluding what the grilles were in 'Edge of Destruction' as that is, ostensibly, the console I am attempting to model.

Excellent spot there Barry - I shall have to call you 'eagle eyes' from now on.  ;)

We share a common goal - to recreate the console as it was originally so, all these little discoveries are welcome.

I agree with you about the width of the grille and that it stands 'proud' of the console's panel but, have a look at this:

difference in grilles.png

The two 'proud' grilles appear to be the same width but the one on panel 6 appears to be deeper than that on panel 2. Oh, the joy!

Is the shadow under the grille on panel 6 confusing things? Also, the camera is not central to the console and is angled slightly towards panel 2.

In this shot (slightly earlier in the same episode) the grilles look to be the same size.

I have put them nearer to eachother in the picture below.

There doesn't seem to be much between them.

As you say 'Oh, the joy!'  :D

Yes, okay, I'm happy with that explanation.   :)

Main drawing amended accordingly!

We're getting there.

All good fun though.

Just for fun, really. I needed a rest after thinking about ventilation grilles for too long.  :D

Missing a few pieces still. I'm happy with the layout of the main parts though.

Barry, you've worked wonders with that meter face! Well done!

I wish I had the computer skills to create something as accurate as this. How did you manage to create the meter faces?

Well... I'd like to claim credit for those. Actually, Dino produced low res versions of the meter faces for Tony's plans. All I did was recreate them at a higher resolution based on Dino's work.

They may well be available for download soon. Dino, any update on that?

I think Dino may well be busy at the moment with the arrival of his grand child. Nevertheless when the downloads are 'up and running', it would be good to post a link to them from my Original Tardis Interior plans thread!

Here we go - down-loadable versions of the Main Meter Graphics which, if printed at the stated scale, will give you the correct full-sized versions.

They can also be found in the reference section here:

Fantastic work Tony!! I managed to see these brilliant meters when you first uploaded them, but for some reasons they aren't showing up on my screen (is anyone else getting this from their end?)

Just checked both threads (this one and Tony's main article on the console and console room set) and all is fine at my end.
