Looks nice, Tom! That's an interesting color choice for the floor; I like it. As far as the door goes, are you referring to the Main Entrance from the outside? If so, the 4th Doctor's secondary console room didn't have a door to the outside - only a doorway leading to a dark... something (a something that we never got to see, but looked like it could have been a short corridor to the exterior doors). The single door in the room led into the rest of the TARDIS interior, so you might need a second door for that in your console room.

Yeah, the remaining two walkways will most probably lead to other rooms, and maybe even an older, more simplified, secondary console (I'm personally hoping I can do a good job with the Roundels texture), but I'll have to think about that later. My main concern is getting the console room done for now.

Console room is currently undergoing overhaul, as well as my new method of making anything and everything... This method was suggested to me a LONG time ago ( a year or so, I think...) by rassilonrod, which is to divide it into multiple files. (e.g Console Room, Console, Secondary, Hallway etc...) and for TARDISes it'll be something like Walls, Doors, Lamp, Base etc... The reason behind such a change is that I find myself constantly distracted by doing something on the console, then changing to the Hallway then the console room and that would go in a cycle for a long time, until I got burned out.

The project has been re-named to Project 1970's. Because this console will be a reminder of the peak of Doctor Who (In my opinion.).

Console Room 1.1.jpg
The console room, with what I wanted to be roundels, but ended up to be hexagonal. The floor will be plain white, with the columns being white with stripes.

A door, what more?

Hey guys! More updates to the custom 1970's console. Because, why not?

Console Room Scanner 1.1.jpg

I decided to make the scanner prominently seen in Attack of the Cybermen but with a twist. Instead of it being 4:3 (from what I can tell from reference), my one is updated to fit both video resolutions of 4:3 and 16:9 (widescreen). Also note the 4 panels on either side ARE elevated from the wall.

P.S. Not related to the topic in a way, but related to one of my projects. I've been talking with my dad about making my full-scale TARDIS and we've agreed on some things. I can share with you that this will be a permanent build (which means when I move house, I'll have to get a lorry, or leave it there and build a new one... :( ) and that the height will be AT LEAST 2.10m, what with my height being a startling 1.77m at only 14 years old. I hope this helps in what will be of my TARDIS, even though I have not planned a date. With all this rain, I may never get started!

Brave heart, Tom! That rain has got to stop soon and then the building can begin.

And I like what you're doing with the console room. The hexagon pattern on the walls is a nice nod to "the future", what will be seen on the lower level walls of the 2013 console room. And the view screen is great as well. (Personally, I think every console room should have a large wall view screen; it's just more dramatic that way.)

Keep up the great work!

Thank you for the kind comment Dino. I did not realise about the 2013 console similarity until now, so thank you for that. Yes, I personally like the view screen as well, mainly because I think that it's all round better to have a large screen.

My brother keeps on pestering me about making a smaller, non-scale model, so that if I do make any mistakes, it will show on the model and not the real thing. I find that if I do make a mistake, I will either replace the wood, or cover it up with weathering paint, to give it a more battered look.

First glimpse at the console shape.

It's a nice beginning, looking forward to see what you do with this shape to make it more visually appealing.

the_prop_maniac

Well, the next step for me is to make the panels which I can never do unfortunately. I'm going to try my best though.

In Sketchup I use the measuring tool to find the corners of the panel and the measure 1 yard up on each corner so I can draw the panel free of the console. I then add handles so I can rotate the panel to make it easier to work with. When I'm done, I can then rotate it down to the same angle, using my marks to ensure proper placement.

You might find it easier to turn the panel into a component before mating it with the console.

You might also want to build your panel components separately and import them in.

the_prop_maniac

Well, I meant the controls :P

Yes, those little fiddly bits on the consoles, very tricky. Lots of dials, displays, levers, keyboards and switches. I'd suggest looking at electronic supply catalogs and prop supplier web sites. When you find something you like, make a model of it - or at least that part that appears on the surface. Then you can import that bit to use on your consoles. Or find something in 3D Warehouse you can use.

the_prop_maniac

Yeah, I guess. The panels will probably be inspired heavily by the Fifth to Seventh Doctor's Console.
